I am getting Age of Conan today and I have some questions -

1. Is it a monthly fee like World of warcraft?

2. Is it just as good/better as World of warcraft but more brutal. (TRUE or FALSE)

3. What would be the best class to start out with for easy leveling and killing?

4. Does this game include raiding?

Thanks!

1) Yes.

2) I wouldn't say as good as or better, but definitely more brutal.

3) There's none really better, maybe Tempest of Set or Necromancer.

4) Yes.

Ok. Is the raiding system Similar to WoW? Do you need to find tanks and healers? do you need to roll against others for an epic drop piece? or is it different?

I say go for it actually, to at least try it out (though do they have a free trial? I don't know) reason why i say go for it, is that I really did like the game, it just had way too many issues at launch so I quit and went back to WoW. But of all the new MMO's, I think AoC had the best potential. I really didn't like WAR at all. AoC at least I really enjoyed til level 20, then the content dropped, and the PvP balance was horrible. They've been making a lot of improvements and more content since then, and now have announced an upcoming expansion pack. I'm thinking of trying it out again myself. It had a truly unique setting. Sure, it's still medieval fantasy, but it's in the Conan universe. No orcs and elves.

Also, the graphics completely blow any other MMO out of the water.

1. Yes, has a monthly fee.

2. Subjective really, I enjoyed both games :) It is more brutal...more "adult" kind of MMO. But it has plenty of PVE contents. Was a little bit sparse at launch but they added in a lot of new quests and a few new quest areas including raid dungeons. Have also included PVP rewards and lvls.

3. If you're going to roll on PVP server...then a Ranger is a good choice. Can stealth and track so you get to pick and choose where, when and who to engage. I cant say whether they will be worth it at the end but for starters, they have good utilities for survival until you learn the game enough.

4. Yes.

Just out of curiosity, how long ago did you play the trial? I'm curious to know if they've made significant improvements since launch, or if it's still not really all that great.

I played Age of Conan a few weeks ago and while they have added the things that was missing at the shipping of the game (hey 70% of the conent was not in the game at release). They have the same problem as most devs now days where they go like this: "What? There is broken stuff in the game? Bleh just hurry and release some new content so they are quiet for a while." But anyway they seem to not want to fix the things in the game... I mean the chat system (for example) still feel like a 5 year old put it together.

I don't know how the patches may have changed it but IMO unless they made it a completely different game then my advice stands.

1. Yes, same monthly fee. First 30 days, iirc, are included with cost of game though.

2. No, it lacks the polish and community of WoW. With that said, the community is adequate and, yes, the gameplay is a lot more brutal. The brutality is one of the strongpoints, as rarely do RPGs go to the depths of AoC to simulate decapatition and various death-by-sharp-stuff animations.

3. Dark Templar was pretty good to start out with. Necromancer is also great; summoning minions hasnt been this fun since the necromancer in Diablo 2! The easiest class imo, however, is the Guardian.

4. Yes. While its not as expansive and grand as WoW, it is more frequent, with a lot of instanced content.

No, not really. You can be a lot more relaxed concerning your party formation. For example, a Dark Templar can easily tank, and a Tempest of Set spec'd for damage can heal just fine. Any class can dps as well.

Bear Shaman is supposedly easy-mode solo, and I never had much of an issue ripping face with my Conquerer. I liked the concept of the Dark Templar since I enjoy playing Shadowknights, but I found the class more difficult to play than the Conq. Not enough damage output or something. At least in the low levels.

Anyway, have fun!! I enjoyed the game the last time I picked it up, but there was hardly anybody around (this was prior to the server merges). The PvP server was pretty fun as well.

My wife and I played this game for a little while. It was interesting, and we loved the great story for the starting island. I was just a bit disappointed by the lack of continuing this central storyline when you leave that island around lv 20. It would be cool if they remedied this in a future update. Maybe it would be worth the time to return someday if that happened. My main draw to any game is the story as well as gameplay, but I have to have both.
