Im getting a new system but i want to know if its worth getting vista on it, its only going to be used for gaming nothing else. I have a macbookpro for all things work related.

I have heard of a lot of issues with it for gaming and was wondering if i should just stick to xp. Or is the dx10 and 64 bit worth it?

I will be looking at getting: Sins of a Solar Empire, Crysis, Stalker: Clear Sky, and Fallout 3.

Also i have and will continue to play Silent Hunter IV, IL-2 and Stalker and want to know if i will have trouble with those?

You will not have issues with those games and Vista. I have most of them installed right now. Really the only games Vista has issues with are significantly older ones.

At this stage I would go with 64 bit, but if you need to save some cash now you could always switch to it later. 4GB in a 32 bit Vista reads as 3.5 GB, which is close enough.

You'll probably find your new computer better for work related applications than your macbook as well.

Cool thanks, ya i was looking at getting 2 gigs of dd3 in the system. Then get 2 more later. System is running at around $1600 right now, so trying to keep costs down where i can for the time being.

Though the system will certainly be faster than my mac, my mac is setup so well now i dont think i can go back to working on a windows machine. Quicksilver and textmate made certain of that. I mean to upload a new class file i was working on to my server i type from anywhere "shift, shift, cl, u, ph, enter" and its uploaded. Thats kinda scary, never even touch the mouse or open a program to do it. Btw not touting osx im touting QuickSilver, possible the best navigation tool ever made.

This depends on many factors. First of all, how does your rig look like ?? Is it powerful enough to run games in Vista and do you have something like 4GB rams under 64bit OS to use if you are going to Vista ??

Another point, DX10 is really good and if you can run your games on Vista well without any problem then definitly go with it. If you feel that you always look to get the highest FPS possible, then stick with XP

If you only plan on getting those games (being none in the future) then i would stick with XP.

Yes get the 64bit version if you want to be frustrated with the bugs that go along with it. Stick with the 32bit for now.

Exactly which bugs? I have heard from many people that the 64 bit version is as stable as the 32 bit version.

People will complain about things long after they are relevant. Don't listen to those that fear change.

I think i will have to go with Kat on this one. If he is running the games i have already and sees no issues then i think ok. Thanks guys.
