+ Securom!
Happy days! Time to play through Arkham Asylum again :)

Great news. I don't see any downsides to switching from GFWL to Steamworks so all the games that still use GFWL should do it. Ok, it will require a team of people to work on it, which costs money. But we paid for the games so we should be able to play them years down the line. I think that is a basic consumer right.
Strangely, I didn't get switched over to the GOTY edition of Arkham City
Great news, all devs that released their games with GFWL should remove it,especially the ones that have/focus on MP.
Totally agree.
On a related note, for this weekend only, Arkham Asylum GOTY is $5 and Arkham City GOTY is $7.50 on Steam.
Easiest double purchase decision I've ever made.
I love this. With Bioshock 2 and Batman paving the way, I hope other developers with games on GFWL remove the service and switch to steamworks.

Since GFWL is shutting down in June 2014, I'm willing to bet that most older games that still have a following will make the transition.
capcom are also doing this for street fighter 4
I think it's the upcoming Ultra version that's going GFWL-free.
Microsoft needs to be working to make sure that every GFWL game gets patched to work without it, since GFWL is getting shut down next year. I'm going to be very upset with MS if some of my games stop working next year, especially since they wanted developers to add always online DRM to their console games. They promised that games would be made to work if the DRM servers ever shutdown. Now we have a chance to see if they were serious, or if they were just telling people what they wanted to hear...

I would assume that they all will. Nobody wants to deal with the PR shitstorm they'd have if thousands, maybe even millions of people lost access to their games when GFWL shuts down. Which is exactly why they announced the GFWL shutdown damn near a year ahead of time. To give all the associated publishers time to patch it out of their games.
how does this effect saved games?
its deleting peoples game saves but some guy has already posted a how to guide for using your gfwl saves with steamworks
Or they could do the honorable thing and make it steamworks....!
The games are steamworks now. That doesn't necessarily mean they'd be able to automatically convert save files from whatever surely terrible and ridiculous format GFWL kept them in.
Very cool, but not happy about losing saved games. :(
Yeah. Noticed this as well.
Still worth it though.

Excellent, thanks!
I got boxed version and it saying something about cant find direct X. But might have something else to do with windows8.1?
I've always been indifferent on the topic of GFWL except for the save game file restrictions, but the removal of Securerom is news.
@acanofcoke, in my Steam I got a new listing for Arkham City listed as "Batman: Arkham City GOTY" that I don't recall seeing before. I'm downloading that now but I suspect that version contains the updates.

finally got it all sorted and installed even GFWL just in case. then I went to go and put my serial key in and it said this cd key been used too many times greeeeeee. So can I still get this on steam or do I need to put the cd key into GFWL first?. Im not asking for a CD key by the way. This is for Batman AA

Like I said, look for the GOTY edition. I have one for AA as well as AC. I haven't tried it for AA but my GOTY edition for AC didn't require a Securerom activation or a GFWL key.

I read on a website that you do need to be signed in to GFWL for it to transfer to steam but I only have ever used my cd key 3 times for this PC due to wanting to put windows back on so had to install batman AA and now it says ive used my cd key too many times and that why. IM REALLY PEED OFF OF MS REALLY AND THE WHOLE DRM THING. Its people like me what get screwed over.

No, you don't need to be logged into GFWL. It's just a patch.

Does anyone think the games will run a bit better now? I dont know if I actually finished the game but i do remember really enjoying the arenas. Robin and Nighthawk were so badass. GFWL had so much potential to crap out at random while playing. I hope they jank GFWL from other games soon like Dirt 3.
Thanks what patch do you need?. Just seen though that this does not include retail box version so Microsoft have screwed us all who has the box version. Never ever buying a batman game again no matter how much it is.
Get Games Go had the Steam keys for the Batman games that I bought from them. I'm not sure how you would go about getting them for the box version...

You seem much more intent on whining than actually fixing your problem so you're on your own. Nobody is screwed regardless of what version you purchased and if you'd googled a bit you'd know that, but if you'd rather just complain about how you feel screwed over then go right ahead.

If you have a boxed retail copy, you should be able to just activate it on steam using the physical CD key. Thats what happened with Bioshock 2 when they removed GFWL and made it Steamworks. I just put my retail CD key from the box into Steam, and now it's on my account. Retail box CD keys become Steam keys.

By the way there's a tool to edit your GFWL save files for steam (http://steamcommunity.com/app/35140/discussions/0/792924412084641813/)
or you can do it manually with a hex editor
Very cool. I may have to give that a shot. Stinks I'll still lose achievements. All mine are registered to the AC vanilla version. I doubt the achievements are retroactive. I guess I can get back most of them with NG+?
EDIT: I found this link to be very helpful.

The thing is, it's not up to microsoft to do it. It's the responsibility of the publishers who used GFWL in the first place. Which is why MS announced the shutdown of GFWL a full year before it's actually going to happen. To give the publishers time to patch it out. So, it'll be happening for more and more games over the coming months. Whether or not those games will become steamworks when they remove GFWL will depend on the game, but I suspect most of them will. Bioshock 2 went steamworks, and now the Arkham games. If you have other GFWL games that haven't made the switch yet, just give it time. I doubt any publishers will let their games get shut down when the DRM servers shut down. Nobody wants to deal with that PR nightmare. There will probably be lots of games that wait until the last minute, though.
