Girls + Games

What kinds of games do your mothers, wives, girlfriends, sisters, female teachers and co-workers, etc. play and why?

No matter what I play my girlfriend isn't interested in playing anything besides Mario and Uno Rush, not even music games. She's not impressed whatsoever by next-gen graphics. They still look fake to her.

I haven't encountered too many girls/women who were into hardcore gaming, particularly not on the PC.

My girlfriend plays a few games on the Wii from time to time, and some casual, flash-based online card games. She hates the 360 and PS3 because she finds their interfaces too complicated and can't figure out the controllers, and she doesn't seem to care about graphics. The only shooter she ever expressed any interest in playing was Portal, but mostly because it's like a big puzzle.

My girlfriend loves horror, so she likes to play stuff such as RE and Dead Space.

I got my mom to play World of Goo, bought it for her birthday (we used to play Lemmings way back when I was little)

my sister doesnt play games; dont think she has ever, actually, touched a video game.

I guess I'm trying to figure out if the simplicity really matters to women. She plays Sims and there is always alot going on.

Now that I think of it though, I don't know why my girlfriend doesn't try horror games or even watch them when she loves horror movies. She watches every one that comes out.

Women like simple, cutesy games for the most part. Casual online games on the PC, the Sims, and party games on the Wii are all popular among girls/women.

They don't like the "shoot dudes in the face" types of games that are popular among men. Although they can be paid to pretend they like those types of games if E3 booth babes and the Frag Dolls are any indication.

Gamer chicks are a different breed. That's why I'm asking for anecdotal evidence.

Why don't graphics impress chicks I wonder.

really its basically the social networking games and the co-op and party games. there are exceptions to every rule of course. but there generally in mmo's, online rpgs, meybe a racing title or two and the games on facebook :P

my ex has played all the same games as me pretty much (on 360): Dead Space, cod4/mw2, fable, halo 3 etc. She's definitely a hardcore gamer, was a shame cause she was hot too.

My sister and her friend were into Diablo for about a year when they were a lot younger. Other than that I know girls who play some Wii games and occasionally Little Big Planet.

My GF like Torchlight a lot as well as few other games: Legend Of Zelda and Blood Omen, my sis love Unreal Tournament (the first one) xD

I play a lot of games, not just 'cutesy games'. A lot of girls I know also play non-cutesy games, so I guess it's who you know.

Females I know in real-life have played: World of Warcraft, Sims series, Ragnarok Online, Rose Online, Ragnarok Offline, Tekken 5. I'm such a stalker. O.O

Some expected results, others very unexpected. Very unexpected indeed. Especially anything sci-fi or war related. So some of what is said is true, but not all of it.

I've never even met a real woman in person who likes Star Wars, they just pretend they do to get attention from guys like me.

My mother plays flash-based games on the computer, my sister plays shooters for example Call of Duty, L4D, etc. My ex played Wii games only, and my current girlfriend plays a lot of shooter games.

My wife likes The Sims, and point and click adventure games (Syberia, Broken Sword series etc...). Now she wants a Wii. I'm an older gamer (43), so I enjoy helping her and or playing along with her.

I get my time to play my games so it's a fair deal.
