Depending if you have a 100 Hzs monitor, you'll get a lot smoother gaming as you can see up to 100 FPS.

On top of that, you've got your multi-functionality. HD video and sound, posting on gamespot with epic speeds ect.

Other than that, control schemes are better for most games other than platforming and racing and Online games have far bigger rooms (64 opposed to 16)

http://adrianwerner.wordpress.com/games-of-2009/ and that's just 2009, you can also look up lists of pc games from 2006-2010. If you can't find any reasons on that website then PC gaming isn't for you.

$1100? Damn, That must be one hell of a PC..... pros for PC gaming. -graphics -controls -no DLC -MODS -Multifunctional. internet, hd video and sound, and all that -Better gaming communities. competitive clans are plenty on PC due to easiness to make clan matched with dedicated servers -Dedicated Servers. No more lagging off of a host's internet connection -Exclusive. There is an amazing line-up of exclusived in Q1 2010 alone. Not to mention all of the exclusives that are already out. -Better communication. Programs like Teamspeak 3 and Ventrilo kill Xbox Live in terms of audio quality and you only talk with people you want to. No more annoying 9 year olds yelling through their mics.

A Virtually endless back catalog of games as compared to the wealth of games the 360, PS3 and wii combined together which still can't even come remotely close to the number of Games you can play both natively and virtually (Through emulation(This also includes DosBox) on the PC. Also, you've got all the web games, Flash games, Mods....the list goes on. So for anyone to say the PC has very few games or...dying?.....HAH!!! Shame on you for calling yourself a gamer

People underestimate the speeds of decent PCs convincing themselves that theres no point upgrading since they are limited by other things such as internet connection. Believe it or not, a decent PC makes things like internet browsing a hell of a load faster improving your efficiency. Hardware can often determine the speed at which the PC loads a page.

sI am surprised by the people who thought $1100 was a lot for a gaming pc, its more than he might need to spend but he is getting a better gaming experience too probably, but back to the subject.

PC gaming opens up entire genres that basically don't exist on consoles (ex. mmorpg, strategy, simulation, and adventure). The online aspects are much better (ex. 32 player TF2 instead of 8). The graphics are better as well even though you said that doesn't matter. Nowadays you can even hook up your pc to a big screen tv and use a controller if you want.

The only thing consoles really offer is a cheaper entry price ($300 vs your $1100) but if you have the money, everything about pc gaming is superior. Its like a having a Kia or Chevy versus a BMW or Lexus. Now there is nothing wrong with a Kia but people who can afford BMWs don't drive Kias

cheaper games, unequaled graphics, keyboard+mouse is superior to gamepad, better selection of games, dedicated servers, mods, indie titles, custom maps.

that being said, mods. mods justify pc alone. also, if you want you can download my steam liberator.... i wrote a C program to get all your steam games out of steam since steam sucks in 64 bit/windows 7.

I spent more than that on mine, about $1500, so $1100 is good enough

Mouse and keyboard (the ONLY way to play first person games)
More detail (not being confined to HD TV resolution)
Higher framerates
Less input lag (Most console games don't have the option to turn off vsync, not that it matters so much with an innacurate controller)
Better graphics (I haven't counted but I think graphics cards are around 4 generations ahead of the current consoles)
Dedicated servers (more people online, far lower pings)
Freedom (The pc is an open platform, microsoft won't charge you for the privelage of playing online. Valve can release dlc without having to charge you for it etc.)
More games (The pc has more games in development than all of the consoles put together)
Cheaper games (Unlucky you missed out on the current steam sales but games are far cheaper at regular prices)
Backwards compatibility (Consoles are more and more doing away with this as a feature)
Upgradeability (It is a myth that you have to upgrade your pc every 5 minutes. You want to play the new games and you play on console? You have to buy the new console. You want to play new pc games on your 5 year old pc? Go ahead, lower the resolution, turn off some bells and whistles and you're good to go. You have the choice to uprade whenever you want without buying a whole new system)

I could go on, I'm sure you're convinced all ready :D PC gaming is where it's at, don't look back :D

Play something like cod on a pc and you'll think "why the hell did I ever play this with a controller!"

Motivation for building a gaming PC? In 2009 alone I bought 50+ games. I spent about 500 dollars on the lot of them. The deals you can get are amazing and many great PC games are available. From classic games to the most graphically advanced, I've never been having more fun gaming than I am now.

The customizing you can do with a PC is great! And you can use one of your wireless 360 controllers if you can get a wireless usb adapter for it for games for windows live. And after your build is done and have the money for a big LCD or LED or if you already got one that can do 1080P you can hook the PC up to it just need a really good graphics card to run on that big Tv.

Superior hardware in general, not just graphics. You can have more memory, more hard disk space allows you to keep more games installed at the same time. Also modding is good.

Plus you can do anything else on a high end PC, video and audio edition, application or web development, etc.

I was afraid this thread might make me less wealthy..and my 1100 is with a monitor so really i guess the tower is more like 900. Im getting a AMD Phenom2 x4 955 and i cant decide between a radeon 4890 or 4850 (dollars to performance wise)..but i know thats for the PC hardware thread. The link to the list of exclusive games on the first game is exactly what I didnt want to read because there goes 1100 bucks. :D

One more thing, Ive read that PC games have been getting sloppy ports from consoles. With my most anticipated games this year being Mass Effect 2 and Red Dead Redemption, I wonder if thats going to happen with these games. If so I guess ill just play them on consoles but I fear once I see how much better PC gaming is in overall graphical prowess and controls ill be spoiled.

Mass Effect 2 should be a decent port the first one was pretty decent, looked good and played exceptionally well. As for Rockstars Red Dead Redemption I doubt that will be ported to the PC (Red Dead Revolver was never ported to the PC) and some would actually breath a sigh of relief that Rockstar won't inflict another heinous pile of garbage on us  .

I would say most ports to the PC are fairly "decent" this is usually down to the power of the PC more than the actual effort developers make. However you are always going to get the odd Star Wars TFU or GTA 4 quality port that screws things up and gets people screaming "PC gaming is dying".

Firsy of all you choose the wrong time to come to pc gaming for multiplatform games since the quality of the ports is awful in comparison with last few years, i personally advise you to buy for pc only games that have great graphics or a high developing budget. Since they will be proper ports and will have better graphics! However if you have 1100 bucks to spend on a powerfull rig you can enjoy some cutting edge graphics, apart from that i cant say that i personally will encourage you to build a pc if you already have both consoles, unless you want superior control, graphics and free mods that is ;)....:) So yeah go for it, just ask first about a game before you buy it since pc gaming =/= console gaming!!!

I built my own PC in August and literally haven't even looked at my Xbox 360 since. It's unbelievable how superior it is to consoles. I got a gaming system plus 23" monitor for 900 dollars and got the same resolution as what can be achieved on an HDTV that costs thousands of dollars, plus the cost of the console. And then when you factor in that I can scale other graphics settings up from what consoles can achieve, it looks even better.

Plus, people don't seem to realize that they are going to need a PC anyway, when they factor in the costs associated with PC gaming. Most people spend about a thousand dollars on overpriced laptops or desktops without realizing they can get a high-end system for cheaper than that if they just buy the parts separately and put it together. And when PC gamers say that the games are cheaper, of course there's the 10 dollars difference in new titles, but if you get on Steam you are guaranteed to find a lot of GREAT games on sale. Console games going "on sale" is unheard of, but is actually quite common for PC. With the holiday sale, I bought 6 or 7 games for under $20.

Well in the last week or so I bought 9 games for around $60 on the steam sale. Some of them were old games, but still I would say that is a pretty good reason to be a PC gamer. Plus, new games are usually $10 cheaper than the console version. Then there's the mods, the rts games, the witcher, keyboard and mouse, higher resolutions, the ability to upgrade your pc whenever you like, and i am sure there are more reasons but those are my favorites

I wouldnt say that, many multiplatform games on the pc have issues such as bad perfomance or weird aiming and other issues. Thats because game developers focus 90% on consoles and throw a quick port as a pc version. Its a good idea before you buy a multiplatform game on pc, to check what issues there might be!!

1. You need a PC anyway for browsing, music, etc. Those cost at least 500 bucks. Why not just spend a few hundred more and make a kickass gaming rig?

2. Higher framerates

3. Greater game diversity

4. Mods, mods, mods

5. Inexpensive games. PC games retail, in stores, for 40-50 bucks. They also devalue quicker; I can get a six-month old game for 30 bucks, whereas on console CoD 4 is still 40+ dollars. Then you factor Steam, D2D, and other download programs/sites into the mix which give INSANE deals, and you really do make your money back.

You wanna pay 60 bucks for L4D 2...or you want to pay 33?

I must say I enjoyed reading this thread. Once you start PC gaming your consoles will probably start collecting dust, and more as time goes on. Hopefully you do indeed make the jump and get that rig. You mentioned making a hardware thread...make sure you do indeed do that and I would suggest also doing so on a PC gamers fanatic forum of some sort, those guys usually keep track of really good deals and you can't beat the helpfulness/knowledge of geeks.

Im sure every PC gamer will agree with me here when i say the best part of PC gaming is. The COMMUNITY! you meet/make alot of decent people playing online. Graphics, mods, cheaper games aside the community is what makes PC gaming superior.

Well, Blizzard's games for one thing. Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 will be worth the price of admission alone. But there are tons of other exclusives. Do some research it's not that difficult.

"i cant decide between a radeon 4890 or 4850 (dollars to performance wise)."

Get yourself a 5770 (£150)

http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/12068850/Sapphire-ATI-Radeon-HD-5770-1GB-GDDR5-PCI-Express-2-0-Graphics-Card/Product.html

It's basically the new 4890 (Directx 11 support, runs a lot cooler etc) and it's the best bang to buck ratio of any gpu on the market at the mo.

If you need a reason to, then I wouldnt advice it tbh... If you do not know why you should have a gaming pc, then dont get one.

It is my fav system (atleast this gen), and I really enjoy most of the pc exclusives, and most of the multiplats, but pc gaming is not for everyone.

Maybe I should make the "enough" part more evident.
