my old laptop has finally died and im now running a 433mhz celeron with god knows what gpu. i think its finally time to upgrade. im getting a new notebook cause i travel alot and at the moment im stuck.

i have 2 options:

Alienware Area-51 M9750

Clevo D900 (aka Sager NP9260)

im gonna go for an sli config (7950GTX)for bothsystems and probably gonna go for a dual core cpu for the sager (its notabout the price difference between the 2 cpu's...i just think that its not gonna work too well. no game uses all 4 cores at once and 2 E6700 cores are faster than 2 Q6600 cores. intels website also has benchmarks for the cpu's and the dual core cpu wins in almost all the tests).

the sager is big...very big...and im not too sure that sager makes good laptops. i know that dell and alienware make high quality stuff so yea....also i heard that alienware is going to run an upgrade program where you can swap out your 7950GTX's for 8800M GTX/GT's, so the alienware looks to be the better choice in the long run. remember that i need this to last me a while. i want to play high end games and im not too picky about settings (but id still rather run gameswithhigh settings if i can)

if you had the choice to get either of them (ignore price) which would you get?

depends, curently games cant utilize all four cores of the q6600, but they will be able to soon, one example is crysis, it will be compltely optomized for multi-core processors, but on the other hand, going with the sli 8800 you will be able to run DX10 games maxxed out no problem, so it is difficult to say.

but i did just take a look at the sager, and couldnt find an option for the q6600.

i would personally go for the one with the quad if i could, because games will be able to utilize all of them, and i also do video editing/rendering and it greatly helps with that. but for stricktly gaming, the dual 8800 is probably a better choice.

cheers.

i think the dual7950GTX will hold up untill alienware decideds to go live with this project.

here is the link to the sager

http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_customed.php?pid=14886&action=customize

there is a Q6600 and a Q6700...i suppose it kind of becomes a tradeoff in the end...better graphics card for a better cpu...i think i might go for the alienware cause cpu's tend to last a long time unlike graphics cards which advance very rapidly.

i still cant seem to get rid of the feeling that the sager is gonna die very soon...it just looks kinda....not good...

hmmm, the sager also has the ability for dual 8700s, and the quad, and that further supports my reasoning for purchasing it, im not sure how much better the 8800 is over the 8700, but for my purposes the sager probably suits them better (if you dont mind carrying that beast around). the q6600 has potential for almost double the processing power of the E series, and the graphics card isnt a huge differance, both dx10, both are able to have an SLI setup.

according to what ive read on forums etc 8700SLI is weaker than a single 7950GTX and the 8800M is miles ahead of the 8700M (8700M is an overclocked 8600GTS).

i need a laptop for gaming. thats it.

*EDIT*

i found the benchmarks for the 2notebooks right here

3dmark06

Alienware M9750 (Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz, Nvidia go 7950 GTX video cards with 512MB)7,308

Sager NP9260 (2.66GHz Core 2 Duo E6700, 2x Nvidia GeForce Go 7950GTX video cards with 512MB DDR3)9,097

Pcmark05

Alienware M9750 (Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 2.33GHz, Nvidia go 7950 GTX video cards with 512MB)6,243 PCMarks

Sager NP9260 (2.66GHz Core 2 Duo E6700, 2x Nvidia GeForce Go 7950GTX video cards with 512MB DDR3)6,871 PCMarks

the sager is more powerful (due to the desktop CPU) but id say all that the alienware has going for it is the 8800M and the awesome look (and the fact that its made by a well known manufacturer)

The best choice I think is 7950GTX SLI with Q6600.You will need quad for future games

personally i would get the one with upgradable graphixs cards becuase like the other person said they tend to get out dated faster then cpus a 7950gtx sli config might hold up for a year but after that you will be wishing you would have gone with the option of geting dual mobile 8800's.

agreed, the only reason i would have recomended the sager was for the quad, without it i would recomend the alien with better graphics cards.

sager is a good brand.. if you look back a couple years, alienware laptops were literally nothing more than sager laptops with a cool paint job. BUT! I think that your choice is fine in this case. the alienware just seems to suit your desires in a laptop better, though a laptop quad seems like an insane idea when it comes to heat.

apparently it stays cool. i need something to play games. like high end games. and i geuss that the alienware fills that need. i know that its kind of a silly reason not to like a laptop cause it looks ugly but the sager is just too massive and too heavy. on top of that i cant get quad :| according to this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=143884

benchmarks are pretty nice.
