Im somewhat interested in it. Im not sure I feel like shelling out $50US + monthly fees for Team Fortress with some RPG elements though. If I hear good things about it and the price drops I might consider it.

  • Additional character customization options including elite character suits, dye colors, and seasonal flair
  • Ongoing Co-Op content at max character level
  • Ongoing AvA content, multiplayer PvP content, and new social areas
  • Must first purchase Global Agenda to activate a Conquest subscription.

but if you just buy the game without a subscrpition you get this:

  • Creation of up to eight different agent characters
  • Character visual customization
  • Access to all combat weapons and devices
  • Cooperative Player vs. Environment missions against the Commonwealth NPC faction, AI-controlled enemies, and Boss Fights
  • Matchmade Player vs. Player missions with a variety of different game types and maps

To be fair, if the subscription fee is the only way to play the large scale battles, you might as well consider it subscription only as that would be about the main appeal of the game.

yeah pretty much, why they charging a monthly fee for an fps i will never know. its pretty lame that there doing it hopefully it will come with one month free so i can enjoy it for a month but still i'd be alot more excited if there was no monthly fee.

and does anyone know if planet side had a monthly fee as it had huge 1000 player battles?

Thoose are not reviews, merely snippets from comments that was given during E3 after seeing select gameplay and cinematics....The game has issues in the current BETA such as:

  • It's not really a third person shooter, it works very similarly to WoW in combat..
  • The "Recon" class is heavily over powered and most people are using it
  • Some classes are very underpowered such as the Medic

I've been watching it for awhile, but I haven't seen anything about it.

They're doing a pretty horrible job advertising it.

Kay so,

If you dont like TF2 style gameplay or PvP dont get this, because it uses pretty much the same formula as TF2. Since the game is also still in beta (comes out feb 1) we have not yet seen all the content, Hi Rez is telling us that the beta only includes a fraction of the total content.

So far in the beta, like i said if you dont like TF2 you will not like this game. The classes (Medic (healer) Asssault (tank) Recon (rogue/spy) robotics (engineer) and weapons are suprisingly very balanced. There isn't one thing so far in the game that makes the game unfair.

The other thing i like is that unlike WoW or GW or any other MMO, a level 5 can kill a level 30 (The max level is 50, 30 is when you unlock all your abilities the extra 20 is just kinda like presige). Obviously it will be harder for the level 5 but its still possible unlike in WoW where a 75 v 80 would be no contest.

AvA is also loads of fun, (Agency vs Agency which are guilds essentially) fight for control of a huge conquest map. Which is unfortunatley not availible for free roam. Unless your in a battle obviously. There are 5 different conquest maps that have vary from 100-150 ish tiles that your agency can control.

PvE isn't as strssed in this game as it is in other MMO's, PvP is the main part of this game. Im not much of a PvE person but the PvE is kinda meh. Its decently challanging, the instances are not nearly as long as WoW's because there is a time limit on to complete them, which is hardest part about them. Max security's time limit is like... 20 mins i believe. The maps also use death traps eg. gas chambers with timed doors, giant crusher things etc kinda like in a mario game.

The down side of this game is once you play the beta extensivley, the game begins to feel like a stripped down TF2 because the MMO aspect of this game is to a minimal. But its also still in beta so once again we haven't seen all the content. So if your into questing and leveling, its not here. The PvE isn't very compelling i guess would be the word.

Also forgot to mention, you can buy the game and have an option of paying a subscription. The subscription basically igves you the MMO parts of the game. Without the subscription, i can see this game being a crap version of a borderlands - TF2 hybrid.

So its pretty much TF2 turned future MMO, so far i'd give this beta 8/10

Thank you very much. That helps a great deal, so far it sounds like a lot of fun though it seems it has its problems. Though what games doesn't. I really like the idea of the game being more concentrated on PcP. Again thanks for the detailed report.

I'm sure there will still be "Trekkies" all over it, claiming it's the messiah of multiplayer gaming. I can't fathom why anyone would want to play that garbage. But if they can stomach any of the Star Trek shows, it probably shouldn't come as a surprise to me that they'd be able to handle an incredibly monotonous game, too.

And yes, Global Agenda is very fun. I'm in the beta also and it's definitely more like a multiplayer shooter than a MMO. You really barely notice MMO elements because you spend most of the time playing the game like you would any other third person multiplayer shooter. I really like how they've taken inspiration from TF2 in the classes, too.

Different people, different likes. I am personally enjoying the heck out of STO, even with it's issues. Trust me, I am a Star Trek fan and it doesn't do the best job with immersion into the universe. However, it does feel like a throw back to the old Starfleet Command games, which I still play to this day. As well, it has been only one of the few MMOs to pull me in and get me to invest a lot of time into....unlike WoW, AoC, LOTRO.
