I really do not get the appeal of rift at all. The combat is probably the worst I've ever played, the graphics weren't good at all, and the game just had a very "meh" feel to me. What did you guys think of Rift and Aion?

With the new 2.5 patch I think Aion has gotten a lot better, and is currently my favorite MMO on the market, despite its shortcomings.

*For those who think Aion is a grind-fest stop being a baby, it isn't that bad at all, I made a 55 and a 30 in about 2 months..

You are seriously making a thread to tell everyone you are tired of a bad game so you are running back to another one? I could see the "going back to WoW" thing.......but Aion?

I was with you until you called me a baby, lol... tried out Rift, and the graphics really bothered my eyes. There's so much.. stuff.. and it's always just that little bit blurry. Aion had a great feel to it, but the game did get really grindy when I got to my 20's. Slow enough that I felt no sense of progression and stopped playing the game. I've heard they made a bunch of improvements to the game since I last played (which was at launch) so I was thinking of trying it out again.

Gods & Heroes just released, though.. and it's pretty fun. And the first part of EVE Online's Incarna update is coming out shortly... so if I check out Aion again it probably won't be soon.

Yea, I think I could have gotten past the graphics, but the combat was EXTREMELY dull to me.

As a seasoned L2 player I tried Aion for a while, then i realised there's no OWPVP in Aion and quit. Haven't tried Rift, can't stand anything that carebear-fest WoW has spawned....

The combat at level 55 is the best combat in any MMO I've played.. and I've played almost all of them (WoW, FF, LOTRO, Rift, etc)

Going back to Aion. I don't know how any sane person can do that. The grinding and horribly uninspiring derivative gameplay was enough for me.

Fair enough, but if you need to get to lvl 55 to experience good combat, then that's a failure...

I'm currently enjoying Rift, lvl 36 Cleric and all is good for me. But I can see how one can find the overall game unappealing. I was wondering how good is Aion? I hear mixed opinions claiming the game is great at the beginning but it becomes a grind fest in mid game. I was wondering this because I was thinking of playing Aion or Final Fantasy XI after I'm done with Rift.

Side note: Be'lakor is the most epic Australian band ever

I bought AION thinking it was going to be the next Guild Wars.... how wrong I was. Graphics are beautiful, but the game bored me after 3 days of playing..... every quest was like go here, kill this, come back...

They've "westernized" the game a lot more. More endgame content, and the levling is actually really fast. And yes, Be'lakor is awesome :)

I'm interested to know about Aion and how it is today. Is it as grindy as they said it was or is it not much different than the other mainstream MMOs out there? I've played L2 for a good while so I'm done with overly grindy MMO. It was ok when you were younger and don't have much responsibilities.

Not sure I'd agree with that... RIFT has a ridiculous amount of skills at your disposal, so it's kept rather interesting like that. Aion had pretty solid combat... probably depended what class you play, but with the Ranger there was some skill-cancelling thing that pretty much required you to be maneuvering and 180-shotting your opponents all the time. Since i haven't played Aion since release, I can't even remember what it was, but it was actually pretty fun. More active than the combat from many games.

Pre-2.5, Aion was awful. But after 2.5, Aion is the only MMO I can stomach now.

Aion is a grind fest made for the Asian demographic, thinking otherwise just makes yourself look silly if you compare it to other games in the genre. Rift isn't bad in any technical or gameplay sense but it just tries to add a sense of urgency with the Rifts that falls apart when you add typical MMO questing since everytime one appears you have to drop everything to fend off monsters. I don't see the appeal of any of these games (wow-likes if you will) because they put you on a gear treadmill which just isn't fun when you see the game for what it is.

I would much rather play something with light or no grinding like Dungeons & Dragons Online or Guild Wars. In those games I get a team together and run content because it is fun. Gear is a bit difficult to get but the emphasis is on teamwork and having fun instead of grinding till yours eyes bleed.

I thought Rift was a blast until I hit 50. Then endgame was virtually nonexistant. I made another 50 and the grind a 2nd time was rough and boring. I gave up midway through my 3rd 50. Overall Rift was a letdown for me. I think it was that 'new car smell' that drew me in. I have never played Aion. I've heard too many bad things about it to put my money into it.

Lol you didnt play lineage 2 you dont know what best combat is...

All the games you mentioned above are grind fest games with no PVP...If you want to see real PVP play Lineage 2...But then again Lineage 2 got only one thing right...mass pvp...the rest of the game is as bad as any other mmo...

Aion had good crafting, but the combat is horribly bland imo. I would put Rift's graphics above it as well. On full detail Rift is simply beatiful. Rift's problem right now is lack of end game content (every new freakin mmo does this), but that will certainly improve with time. The game hasn't been out but a few months, fortunately content can always be added.

You did alot better then me, I couldnt manage to get one character to 50 have a 30 and 2 20 somethings. I have many 85's and am leveling more ATM in wow, I am used to the leveling grind, but rift is the most boring mmo I have ever played, I enjoyed DC universe 10 times more.
