I'm going back to older games like Thief 3, Riddick : EFBB, Theme hospital and Populous, since im abit fed up with some of the games i have now.

Im pretty excited reinstalling these games now, never really finished them. Anyone else doing the same thing, installing games probably more than 4-10 years? :P

Quite excited going back to Thief 3 though, havent even played 10% of that game but it was really fun, after all its coming from Eidos. Does it get really good after the first 2 missions?

I was in the process of doing the exact same thing.

Fully replaying Deus Ex and repurchased Thief 1 and 2. System Shock 2 is next on my list! However I'm just too caught up with Dawn of War 2 to play them. However I highly agree that fine games are few and far between today and it's so much more fun and economical to just go back to oldies and play those again. They have better stories, gameplay mechanics and atmosphere than modern titles...only bonus modern games get is graphics but thats only an attraction to console players...us PC gamers demand quality content!

I have to agree, I never really stopped playing older games. Most new releases don't even interest me as they seem little more as 6 to 8 hours of eye-candy.

I also like playing older games especialy games i liked as younger and games that i missed My goal is to try and play as many great games of all time, no mather what platform Before few says i played some older Sega Genesis games and i had great fun I also search for some playstation games etc. But dont diss games of today, there are masterpieces even today, but its easier to find masterpieces of past, because more info is available on them than on some new games

I am currently replaying the Commandos, Delta Force and Jazz Jckrabbit Series, man that were some good times. GTA2 is still on my pc after all those years, and is always fun for a short burst of agression. I'm going to try pick up Age of Mythology, Age of Empires, Several Tomb Raider Games and Operation Flashpoint again.

Damn that were some good times :D

I recently brought my latest Baldur's Gate character over to Baldur's Gate 2 and have been playing that with some of the mods I've dug up for it. I'm on a mod kick right now. Once I'm done with Baldur's Gate 2 I'll be moving on to either Thief or Neverwinter Nights and all the mods I've got for those games.

Most of the new stuff has lost that gotta get it vibe. After 10+ years of buggy, unfinished, and broken games I'm tired of paying for stuff that probably doesn't work right and will likely contains a lot of things I've done in older games. Now that activation has turned my $50 in a rental fee there just doesn't seem to be much point in buying new games anymore.

There seems to be a lot of people who prefers old games, just like I do. I think that old games had more soul to them and you could notice that developers put much more love in their production. Games now look great, but are too generic and lack enganging gameplay and innovation. I recently finished Monkey Island 2 again and right now I'm playing SimCity 3000. I think that a few recent games can capture that classic gaming feeling like World of Goo and I'm also looking forward to Wallace & Gromit. I also enjoy new games like Fallout 3, but mostly new games are boring like Mass Effect which is nowhere near as good as KOTOR or Baldur's Gate.

right on point. I have to agree with you. Modern games have better graphics, but few games actually worth playing as far as story and satisfaction concerned. Bioshock is no doubt an excellent game for action-RPG but still I found Morrowind is better than that. Right now I'm busy with Baldur's Gate 2 and I still find it awesome game.

Honestly a lot of people say that, but it applies only to a few genres. Real time strategy is getting way better than what it used to be, first person shooters are getting better, sports and racing games are getting way better. RPGs are maybe the only area where games aren't making progress, since storyline is so important in those. Also TBS, but it's more a case of there are barely any new TBS coming out (the ones that are - Total War games - are great). Plus, Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri pretty much has the TBS market cornered as the best TBS ever :P

Delta Force was pretty cool...my wife bought that for me a few years back...:P

I always have 1 or two older games installed to play along with whatever new flavor I'm presently interested in... older games currently playing...Freedom Fighters, Max Payne and Mechwarrior 4 : Vengeance.....I also think I may go and re-install Delta Force...:)

You know, I think this is the problem I'm having. I have all these recent games and I'm always finding myself just staring at the desktop shortcuts out of boredom. I don't feel motivated to play many of them. Dungeon Keeper 2, here I come!

okay where to begin hmm: crysis warhead was rather bland

C&C: RA3 wasnt bad but could have been alot better

fear 2 looks to be rather knockoff-ish

deus ex 3 is going to be a tactical shooter so already it gets to crash and burn

final fantasy 11: wings of the goddess was practically pointless for an already bloody ages to finish MMO

age of conan is umm broken

SoF: payback is possibly the worst thing since vista.

and ill explain all of those in more detail if you would like me too.

Don't really agree with the most people on here.

I have been gaming since my dad bought me a spectrum 48k back in the 80s and although i have many fond memories of all the games ive played between then and now i don't really think modern games are as bad as some of you make out. I too sometimes like to go back and play older games but its not the same as when i played the the first time around. So i prefer to leave them as memories of some great gaming moments of my earlier years.

As for modern games i have been drawn in and loved to name but a few, Dead space, Supreme commander, Crysis, Total war games (absolutely love these), Company of heroes, DOW2, L4D, stalker soc and Fallout 3. And that is just off the top of my head.

While i will always have those treasured memories of some great games years past i think we move on for a reason and its isn't just eye candy.

Funny enough I got a yearning for older games recently, I was playing McGee's Alice the other day; which I am sure the McGee's Alice announcement recently played a part in.

Developers were more adventures early 2000 and before, budget expectations today are far too high to risk making something way out there.

It would take an act of God/Zeus/Behemoth for planescape torment to ever leave my HD for more than two hours..Anyway yes old games are classy and sophisticated, new games are cheap and common, more fun to look at than fiddle with.

and u also happen to belong to the uninformed tasteless union of PC gaming trend following lackeys XD

I s'pose if you haven't tasted the gaming joy of computer games in (mainly) the 90s - and even previous to that - then you would have no reason to dislike modern games. I find most games are streamlined and slick but they take no risks and follow a formula that most people feel safe with. Most of my favourite games are very much flawed but they have a certain character that I find few games these days can replicate.

My main PC died recently (the one I use for serious gaming), so I'm now stuck on a crappy laptop with a rubbish integrated graphics chip. I really wanted to play Fallout 3, The Witcher, the new Prince Of Persia, and a few others, but now I can't until I can basically build a new rig. Gah. :/ So I've been playing a lot of older games in my collection recently. The laptop will just about handle Morrowind and Tron 2 with settings turned down. Anyway, I've recently gone back and completed Broken Sword 1 & 2, Chaser, and Max Payne 2. There are actually quite a few games that I didn't complete for one reason or another, so I guess now's the chance to go back and finish them. I'm currently playing through C&C Renegade (single player campaign), Morrowind, and Aliens v Predator 2 (Marine missions). I also fired up the original Fallout since I can't play the newest one now, but I won't carry on with it until I've finished the three I'm currently playing. I like to have a few games on the go for a change of pace. Other games I need to finish include Tron 2, Sacred, Project Eden, Arcanum, Divine Divinity, Curse Of Monkey Island, Freedom Fighters, Gothic 2, Dungeon Keeper 2, Hidden and Dangerous, Summoner, The Thing, Anachronox, Revenant, The Longest Journey and a load of others.
