I'm just looking for small speakers to attach to my tv that give it a little more sound....I have a unused OPtical input so I would prefer that and I only want 2.0 speakers...no subwoofer necessary since my neighbors below would COMPLAIN.

ANy suggestions?

What's the use optical was made for 5.1 speakers.

Use plain red/white audio cables.

Optical can still be useful in a stereo set up. If you listen to CD's you can be able to listen to them in high quality stereo Uncompressed PCM. You can also listen to the PCM tracks off of blu ray movies, but keep in mind you cannot carry the multichannel PCM with optical, you will need HDMI or multichannel analog inputs to listen to those tracks in multichannel form.

I have the audioengine a5's and they are great 2.0 speakers with many inputs, spdif, sub out, RCA, mini, etc. They are a tad expensive at $325 and a bit big cause they are bookshelf size, so if you want smaller and less expensive multimedia speakers, the audioengine a2's are also good and I highly reccomend them if you are looking for audiophile sound quality.
