Hey everyone, I have some Logitech X-530's. I think they sound great for the price but I had them for a while and I was thinking of upgrading.

What is a good 5.1 Sound System that sounds good for under $800?

Thanks

Under 800? You can get a killer setup with that. If you don't mind refurb you can really get something good. First off, Canadian or USA? Price difference and where to get things for those 2.

Onkyo HT-RC260 receiver

Polk CS1 Center

Polk PSW10 Subwoofer

Polk Monitor 30 II surrounds

Polk Monitor 40 II Fronts

Comes out to around 660 before shipping and tax (if you're charged that.) That's for a 5.1 setup but the receiver supports 7.2, so you could get another pair of Monitor 30s and even another subwoofer if you're a bass freak. Then you'd also need some speaker wire which you can get top-quality stuff at monoprice. I'd recommend some 14AWG stuff. There's also Onkyo HTiB stuff which are a lot cheaper, but not nearly as good mostly due to the speakers they provide. The only good one they have (and the best HTIB out there imo.) is this one. A bit pricy though. Could save 50 bucks by getting the earlier version but then you miss out on a few features. Even then you could get better value getting seperate speakers + amp.

don't buy a 5.1 system if you have such a high budget! It would be a waste of money, Get a seperate amplifier and speakers and I guarantee you will have at least twice the power/quality

$800 is not a lot of money for a sound system. You probably will end up with a ~$300-350 receiver (probably Onkyo would be best at this price point TXSR508 or TXSR608 if you can splurge a bit), at the minimum $200 for a descent sub (BIC America F12 probably best for money at that price) which then leaves you with ~$300 for speakers (look for Energy, Def Tech, etc or expand budget for better speakers-Vann's has Jamo S 406 HCS for dirt cheap price of $230).
