I'm looking for headphones (over the ear) that have good sound quality for gaming, music and movies (i know thats everything, but i got high expectations, what can i do about it?). I also like it if it had a mircophone, and the best would be if it were detachable, so that i could not look like a a-h0le when i wear them outside. i'd pay basically anything under $100, but i'd go higher if something really strikes me. I have done some research and so i am acquainted with the main-stream models (but i haven't ruled any of them out, yet) like the stellseries V2 5H or whatever it's called. This is what i have found, but it doesn't have a de-atchable mic:

heres a review of it:

what you think? what setwould you recommend?

I would suggest you look up the Sennheiser HD555 headphones, great all rounders with excellent sound quality (really well balanced). I bought mine last year for £60, so im guessing they shouldnt be much more than $100. Stay away from Skullcandy, they arnt good.

Sony

I'm in love with these _ Sony MDR-7506_

Awesome for studio recording (if you're into that)

Great for gaming (not too much bass, not too much treble. Perfect audio balance)

My suggestion would be the aforementioned Sonys or the Sennheiser HD555. I would advise against the HD280 and the Grado SR60.

Well they're on the ear not over the ear and they're open back so probably not the best for when TC's out in public, Grados are good but they don't really fulfil the specification.

they look great! they are skinner and in general more sleek then the other headphones suggested (thanks guys), but still keep the over the ear design. I'll look into a few reviews, and then get back to you if i buy em'. Cheers

Grado headphones aren't "all-around" headphones. Their greatness is exclusive to music. For games and movies, they're less than impressive. The lack of lower end and soundstage is probably the reason.

over the weekend i found a pair of HD 280's (senn.) in my papa's closet, and i've been trying them out. They are great for music but in some games their just downright awful. in TF2 they are good, but when i play Burnout Paradise they are atrocious. I don't know if it's because there are to many sounds (the engine, the music and the annnouncer) or it's becuase of some other special reason. I must say though, they are comfortable.

Why do they have the problem with Burnout though? is it because they are "studio headphones" and not made for gaming (i always thought that stuff was bogus, and that there was no real difference)?

The "studio headphones" simply means that it plays back the music exactly how it was recorded. The problem with this is that the sound will seem a bit "dull" or lifeless - lacking lower end. What's your sound card?

I don't have one. sounds horrible saying it like that, but thats the truth. I guess thats why they don't sound AS good as i thought they would. Should i get one? My budget would be pretty tight, like $50 or maybe $70. Would it really help that much?

Onboard sounds awful compared to any sort of soundcard. If you're worrying about sound quality, it's necessary.
