Hey. I've played a lot of action games lately and feel like playing some more laid-back, relaxing games.

I played rollercoaster tycoon 3 and that was fun for a bit. Also played Rome: Total war which was good but got a little repetitive so I don't want to get the other total war games, and I already played The Sims 2 and 3. Are there any other games like this? Something laid-back that I can pause in and play while I'm eating or something?

Try Simcity 2000, 3000 or 4, Audiosurf, Machinarium. Maybe Flight Simulators too?

Yeah there's Farmville. Then some others like Zoo World or something. I can't remember, but there's a bunch of casual games on there.

The Witcher is surprisingly casual in the way that you can just sit back and only use the mouse to control it.

Pangya(Albatross 18 ) is a very relaxing online game. The community is also fantastic. It's indeed an incredible game for both casual and the hardcore.

Couldn't resist, it's freaking marvelous!

A fairly neat Bejeweled style game is Gyromancer by Square. You can get that on Steam as well.

I recommend the following, all of which are on sale on Steam right now:

  1. Braid
  2. Osmos
  3. Puzzle Quest
  4. World of Goo
  5. Machinarium
  6. Ghost Master

In addition to that, I would say that any point-and-click adventure game should qualify as relaxing, since the game only moves along at the pace you play through it. And again, there are TONS of great games on sale for dirt cheap on Steam right now. It's a great time to pick up some new stuff to play. :)

I just started playing EVE Online. I find itvery relaxing. It can be tense if you do combat, of course.. but that's your choice. You can do exploration - archaeology, salvaging, or mining/manufacturing as well. Something about the calm vastness of space gets me :)

And your skills level up over time.. you can set your skills into a queue over 24 hours, so you'll always be learning something as long as you log in every day for a bit to queue up some skills. No need to grind in this game.

Zombie Bowl-O-Rama is quite fun for chillin' just a 10 minute go here and a 20 minute go there. Plus it's only £0.69 at the minute.

Age Of Empires + Conquerors expansion.

I sometimes play this game before going to bed.
It's an old game, cheap but it still looks very nice IMO and it's not as hectic as other RTS games.

The skirmish mode is one of the best I've ever encountered in an RTS.
Lots of options. A great random map system. Instant saves.
One game takes me about 3 hours. I mostly pick a large map with water.

The first night I build my fishing ships, my farms, my markets, my stables, etc.
The next night I prepare for battle, dig for more gold and stone and slowly put my army into place.
The final night I conquer.

I'ts a bit boring but in a fun way. It relaxes the mind.

Try a decent relaxing MMO. Personally I found games like WoW very relaxing because you can go get some action in PvP or dungeons, or if you want to go casual you can just sit in a city talking to friends and trading on the auction house. Also doing random world PvE in almost any zone is very casual as well, no time limits and easy fights. You could challenge yourself with tougher monsters but it's really all up to you. Single-player, I would go for a puzzle game, those are pretty casual.

PEGGLE

And right before you win a challenge, it goes in slo-mo and plays one of the most satisfying tunes of all time: "Ode to Joy" :)

You actually can't go wrong with any PopCap game.

The Elder Scrolls games. I've spent a long time just wandering through the scenery doing nothing, taking in the wonderful soundtrack and art direction. In fact these games are literally works of art - beautiful stuff. Games with a lot of reading and listening involved, like Planescape Torment, are relaxing.
