Hey I'm getting a new computer from Dell soon (I can't build my own cause of parents) and I was wondering if it'll be able to run hardware intensive games (such as Crysis and SupCom) at high settings smoothly. I'm also debating whether to get a Q9450 intel processor or a intel core 2 duo e8500, and picking between dual 8800gt's, dual 9800gt's, and a 9800GX2.

Specs of two different comps (they're two different models)

E8500 (costs $2389):

Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB)

4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs

750GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

22 inch SP2208WFP Wide Flat Panel with Webcam and Mic

nVidia GeForce 9800GX2 1024MB GDDR3 (or dual 9800gt's or 8800gt's)

Q9450 (costs $2479):

Intel® Core™2 Q9450 (12MB,2.66GHz, 1333FSB)

4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 4 DIMMs

750GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache

22 inch SP2208WFP Wide Flat Panel with Webcam and Mic

nVidia GeForce 9800GX2 1024MB GDDR3 (or the other graphics cards as stated above)

Both these systems run XP. Are these two computers good for their price too? Thanks for the help in advance, sorry for the long post

If your are going to be playing SupCom you will benefit from a quad core, it will utilize all four cores, and it's a very CPU intensive game. Also you may want to consider the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB for your computer, as they offer great performance for the price. EDIT: Do you even know if the motherboards in the computer are SLI compatible, or are you doing the whole "customize a system" thing?

woh woh woh wait a minute 2200$ for that ? custom build
ever saw the Gamestop pub ? the reptile guy doesn't that worth anything ? yeah about 15$ bucks Jaw open..
Obviously for that money id have. 2x 280GTX that outperform it allot
where u from ?
cause as far i know from newegg / amazon / ncix.com
ic an get 4GB DDR3 1600mhz OC Stable Ram + 500GB hard Drive + the CPu you just said. Q9450 but It shown that E8500 OC Perform way better for money tough
+Vista Premium + Pc Case that cooling airflow is much better then dell
Better motherboard then given from dell
total 1.900$+TAX. all you require is a BenQ 300$ monitor 24 inch 1920x1200 or Dell 24Inch 1920x1200
or SAmsung 1920x1200 24 inch about same prize
and it outperform dell cause with dell even with a software you won't be able to Overclock ur cpu so you lose 25% Performances in game.
il check my self.

Yes I'm doing the customizing thing, and as I said before I can't build my own rig, which is really disappointing :( I seriously just want a fast computer that can run a lot of the nice games these days, because anything is an improvement over my old rig. My budget is up to $2500

Lol I'm in the Eastern US, and I can't build my own rig cause of family issues (don't ask why). Just give it to me straight, will that comp work as well as it should, and be able to run games on high settings or more

family issue ? still doesn't make sense...... but w/e
dell are so reputed for being crap and even crashing trough there so called GREAT Service of after-sales
go straigh tot he 2457 Overpriced PC if you want power for that money i still said you have neither 2x 280GTX or 2x 4870X2 Incoming august

Because like said unless you know a uber hacker who can unlock the biased bios and make you able to oc ur E8500 you won't get good performances as the Q9450 a E8500 OC can defeat a Q9750X a 1.240$ cpu for 280$

ncix.com usa or : neweggs. or tiger-direct.com in usa
i can help you you say budget you was around 2400$ ? right you can lower if you fell you have too
i can do tell part my self
i can do a example. E8500 280$
4GB DDr2 800mhz 80$ around. to 180$ for DDR3 2GB 1600mhz or 380$ for 4GB
motherboards from ati or sli Intel 200$ top 5 motherboard to #1 around 300$-400$
Cpu-cooler thermaltake Duo orb around 45$
Pc-case Thermatalke or cheaper tower from 90$ to 175$
Video card From 200$ to 1400$ SET 1400$ include tax = #1 current. set of video card
900$ include tax = 2nd set
but i think a 350-500$ Set would fit you fine

a thermapaste glue well 5-7$ you put the glue on it : put cable or ask someone who can do it
once you received pieces
for hard Drive. 500GB = 80$ Storage's Type
For speed Type There is 10,000RPM raptor but i don't know if it do much a difference that worth is money
there is also power supply almost forgot to put is around price 120$ to 240$ depend of video card set you intend
Sound-card if you intending to use 5.1 Speaker 40-100$ if not build in sound on motherboard is great enough
that what i use right now sound-card from build in motherboards but I'm getting a X-FI latter
on this website there Is a 600$ video card 3x 9800gTX http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3275&p=5

There are plenty of experienced PC builders like myself here who can help you customize your own rig, with a $2500 budget you can work some wonders building your own custom gaming PC. Plus you get a good sense of accomplishment and satisfaction building your own machine, nothing like knowing your computer inside and out. We'll make sure all your parts work together and guide you through putting it together.

Yeah, I understand, he can build a great system for ~$1,200 that the other guys would charge him $2k+ for, I just wanted to put $2,500 into perspective, which is a lot of top of the line hardware. Yes, not only do you save money, you get the above benefits I mentioned. I it would be wise not to use all $2,500.

All of that is compatible. Crossfire is easy to set up, you just put in both cards, attach the bridge cable between them and then install the drivers once you have Windows installed.

Well people buy from them because they're squirmish about building their own PC. You can build that PC for less so tell your parents, family issue or not, you could save more money therefore causing less family issues. But yeah, that computer can run Crysis just fine but I would opt out for the HD4870. It's a much better card.

Ok yeah I'll ask about building your own, I'm just completely lost on how to physically assemble everything. And for the Dell I can't get HD4870 cause they don't have that as an option. Would you recommend the parts I listed above or is there something better?

beside 24 inch monitor. instead of that 22 inch for 30% more pixel those 1920x1200 that ur card should support well
youc an change from Q9300 to E8500 up to you as far i heard in review E8500 offer Better performances then most of game and easier to Overclock or something lik ethat but i heard u can get ur Q9300 at 3.5Ghz with a software who oc in future
it shown on a review i posted Before a E8500 OC Performing 20-40 fps higher in some game. then Q9300 OC. wonder why tough.
maybe it just cause the game was 1024x700 i saw a review i think of 1280x1024. so Q9300 is good choice still wonder if ud get more power with E8500 but Quad run more task so.
i think ur all good Beside monitor
you could spend 100-200$ more for 1920x1200 but that up to you motherboards seem good

If you are don't think you can assemble your own, there are many online stores which let you pick out all the parts and they build it for you. (for a fee offcourse, at my local store its $30. Still far cheaper than dell.)

Well, putting together a computer is like putting together a really expensive jigsaw puzzle. The only thing you sometimes need to apply some force to is mounting the heatsink (you want a snug fit).
