Hey everyone, I am looking to buy a new computer and just need to know if the HP Pavilion m8407 is a good computer to start with. I will be upgrading it withing the future, probably starting with a better PSU and a graphics card. But here are some specs.

Intel® CoreTM 2 Quad processor Q6600, 2.4 GHz

Up to 1066 MHz front-side bus

8 MB L2 cache

4 GB (shared) DDR2 SDRAM PC2-6400 (4 x 1024 MB), upgradeable to 8 GB (4 x 2048 MB) (Should I add two more gigs?)

HP w2207h 22-in. flat panel TFT active-matrix display with BrightViewTM technology

Up to 1791 MB (shared) PCI ExpressTM x16 NVIDIA® GeForceTM 8500 GT (512 MB on board)

It comes with the HP w2207h 22-in. flat panel TFT active-matrix display monitor. It costs $1000. Could I do better? Or should I make one on my own from scratch?

Or there is this one for $700

HP Pavilion AMD Phenom 9500 Quad Core 2.2GHz

3 GB (shared) DDR2 SDRAM PC2-6400 (4 x 1024 MB), upgradeable to 8 GB (4 x 2048 MB) (Should I replace it and just go to 6)

720 GB 7200 rpm

Nvidia 8500 GT

Build your own from scratch. The setup they have there is overpriced a fair bit, although the screen prevents it from being horribly overpriced.

I know two people that owned CyberPowerPC (or IBuyPower, I can't honestly recall) machines. The first one would not power on upon arrival, and it turned out a few connectors weren't hooked up. Piss-poor job on the part of QA. The second had a more serious defect (dead motherboard), and CyberPowerPC claimed that my friend had overclocked his computer (he didn't) and voided his warranty. Not a good track record if you ask me.
