OK, i'm on the look out for some good first-person games, either adventure or stealth:

i've played:

Sherlock H: Awakend

Call of Cthulhu:DCotE

Deus Ex - both

Thief - all three

are there any other games people would recommend, from the last 5 years or so?

thanks

Chronicles of Riddick, solid FPS with stealth and action. Either pick up the new one next week or the older version cheaper.

Hitman and Thief series instantly come to mind. You've already tried Thief, so give Hitman a go. Blood Money is the most recent and plays very well. There is also the splinter cell series, though some of the ports haven't been done well

All Splinter Cell games (especially the first one), except Double Agent, I like it a lot, it's awesome but the crashes are extremely annoying :(. Tho these are 3rd person.

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, great game imo, at first I liked it but after I played a little Age of Chivalry (best HL 2 mod ever :P) I love it.

Escape from Butcher Bay has adventure, stealth and FPS elements but doesn't spread itself too thinly. It is competent in each area except the adventure aspect is a bit mediocre compared to pure adventure games.

Excellent game.

Also, get Clive Barker's Undying.

Hitman, SplinterCell, Assassin's CreedListen_420

can someone confirm whether Splinter Cell is first or third person?

the GS review seems to suggest either, but it's not that clear, as is often frustratingly the case (i've never understood why something as important as a game's perspective isn't stated clearly right at the top of a review: the same goes for stating it on game packaging too, even more unbelievably)

Doesn't get better then the Splinter Cell Games bud excluding Double Agent of course. If you can find a copy of Metal Gear Solid 2 for the PC then that will certainly be a marvelous experience awaiting.

i really don't dig third-person much - i didn;t mind it in the Blade Runner game becasue everything else in that game is so great, but i avoid it as a rule - games are escapism for me, so i like to be 'in' the game and as immersed as much as possible - which means first person for me
