What happened to the free program, avg? Is it not free anymore?
Sporknife
Free for trial, something like 20$ for the full one. The only difference is a bit more protection and a couple more features.
avg's still free, it just sucks at actual virus detection compared to Avira/AntiVir or Avast.[QUOTE="ASRCSR"]
Norton
Sporknife
Oh god no
2nded on avg free though. There are some better things for free, but they're more intrusive and you won't need them unless you go around doing computer repairs or something.
Bleh, i dont like any of them,,,Norton breaks PC's...AVG is now a system hog. I like Avast because of its detection rates and Antivir because its uses very little power to run!avast is pretty good, but i notice that when i do an actual scan it finds more viruses. so the auto detection must be set to low, but when i turn it up i can notice a hit in performance, as well as false positives. and as doctors will tell you false positives are a no no
[QUOTE="X360PS3AMD05"]Avira, i switched from Avast and before that i switched from AVG.Daytona_178
Fickle much :P
That's what I did, too. :D Used AVG until v8, switched to Avast for a year, then discovered Avira and never looked back. You can disable the update popups just by setting it to 'invisible,' and you can disable the 'THIS IS A FREE PROGRAM' popup from secpol.msc, making the program lightweight, invisible, and still with great detection.Avira + comodo firewall and SuperAntispyware for on demand scans. Use sandboxie as well, and u will never have any problems.
I used AVG (ver 7) for a long time and was always satisfied with it, but then I got infected with a Trojan and had to reformat my computer. After the reformat I tried upgrading to AVG 8 but that turned out to be a mistake. I also tried BitDefender, but that program crashed my computer and I had to reformat AGAIN. I decided to try a new antivirus and after researching different ones I finally went with Avast. So far it has been working pretty good - no issues with my computer and no slow downs. Seems to update regularly and is easy to use. Plus you can get the Avast Home Edition free and they will provide you with a license key good for 14 months, and then after that you can get another key for another 14 months, and so on.
avg free edition coupled with free super anti-spyware is all you need in my opinion. And, if you want another option I'd suggest ESET Nod32 as an option for pc gamers. It doesnt intrude at all in your system resources. Stay nine billion feet away from Norton and Mcafee. They are resource hogs...dont need em stay away.ydnarrewopNorton has been revamped like I said and uses the least amount of system resources. 52mb.
