What are some games that have very little or no DRM, preferably one that also doesn't require the CD in the drive? No I am not a pirate. I just don't want to deal with DRM. I could live with placing the CD in the drive, but rather keep my CDs safe. I know this probably limits me to 2+ year old games or independent/download only gamesbut that's fine. Also I don't want any Steam games. I know some of you praise steam but I don't want any unnecessary clients installed on my computer, this goes for battle.net as well. So far the games I have that meets these requirements are The Witcher, Torchlight, World of Goo, and Machinarium. All very good games. I hear The original Crysis doesn't have an obstrusive DRM. I believe it has securom but none of that activation limits of newer titles. I didn't realize PC gaming would be this much of a hassle when I built my new rig.

Check out Good Old Games. As the site implies all the games are older BUT no DRM is attached. Buy the game and download with a downloader or the usual way and it is yours with no activation strings attached.

Sins of a Solar Empire, though I think if you want to patch it the proper way you need to install Impulse.

In any case, you don't need Impulse running or an internet connection to actually play the game.

Neverwinter Nights 2 doesn't require the disk in the drive, at least my retail copy doesn't. And of course, anything from GoG.com is completely DRM free (it's run by the guys behind The Witcher).

Fallout 3 or original Stalker. Also Dragon Age requires a disk check which the TC seems to not want.

I've heard of GoG. How does it fair with windows 7? Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely check them out, especially since I hear that Sins have a star wars mod.

Stop complaining and deal with it!! I'm and just sick and tired of bunch of loosers complaining about having online DRM like SC2 etc etc. Hekynn
I'm not complaining. I just don't want to deal with DRM, especially since there are other options out there. I only want to know what those options are.

Yes, the original Crysis did not have obtrusive DRM, just a simple disc-check although the fact that it was still SecuROM concerned some people. Crysis Warhead uses activation-based SecuROM --- though if you were to "bend" a little on the DRM, I'd recommend that this is a title that's worth it.

Gog.com as others have mentioned is definitely worth a visit for those that appreciate DRM free games. There are some Aspyr games that have absolutely no DRM: Cryostasis, Necrovision, Men of War, etc. There are other games that have had their DRM removed via patches, such as Far Cry 2.

You may want to check out some newer games such as Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead. The retail versions of these games provide you with an option to either use a disc-check or online authentication --- so you could authenticate online and play without the need for the disc yet keep your discs stored safely away with the security of knowing the games (outside of online multi-player) aren't dependent on internet access or servers being available for future use.

If you like Diablo style games maybe Torchlight? I think Diablo 2 with the new patch doesn't require a disk either.

Indeed they do. Anything they list for Vista will typically work on Windows 7. Also, each game has it's own forum, and there are threads in their general forum about 7 compatibility as well, so they make it really easy for you to find out before spending the money on their games. All the gog.com games I have I've played on my Win7 laptop.
