I'm looking for a card but I'm not sure which is the best value because I haven't been paying attention for years. I don't need some high end expensive card that gets high benchmarks but offersthe same framerate and performance asa card that costs a third or a fourth of what the expensive cardcosts. I've been ripped off too many times in the past.

Been Kind of looking atthe ATI 3850 but I'm not sure if it's intended to be a video an editing card or a budget.gaming card.

For Nvidia, the Mid-Range I would say is the 9800GT, its ok for mild gaming and is a g8 card for the price.

If ur looking cheaper then the 9600GT isnt bad either, its sort of the low-range but can b picked up cheap.

A more expensive one is the GTS250, it's moe of a mid-high end, and should last u a while, its g8 for gaming, resoultions upto 1680*1050, any higher, and the card is it at its limit

the 3850 is currently about the cheapest you could go in the "budget gaming gpu" market. (with the next seps up being on par but more dx9 friendly and/or just altogeather better) my 3870 is a great card and can take alot of punishment before i drop my quality on games. so id say this in its defence if i had few alternatives at its price point it will serve you well but if i had my way under ideal circumstance id get my hands on a 9600series nividia or hd 4600 series ati

The GTS250 is basically as good as the 9800GT. GTX series is the more superior.

No.It's a rebadged 9800GTX+ on the 55nm process. You should read more.

if you are looking for around $70 look for the 9800GT at Tigerdirect its about that much with rebates. For around $100 with rebates you can get a HD 4850 which is a great card. and for around $140 after rebates you can get a HD 4870 at newegg which is a great deal. obviously the 4870 is the best but i would say all are good cards for their respective prices.

Not true. A GTS 250 is equal to a 9800GTX or 9800GTX+. They are faster than a 9800gt.

You can get a 4870 1gb for $190 right now. That's about a third of the best card out, and the 4870 is a great card

I own a 9600GT and a 9800GTX+ .. both of them are great cards.
The 9600GT could play most game titles on med/high settings in 1920x1080 and the 9800GTX+ could max out almost everything with that resolution except for crysis. I would suggest you to buy the GTS 250 since is a newer product :D

When looking for graphics cards with a good price range, you need to look at the type of shaders they support. Shaders are special effects like Normal Maps, Shadows, and 2d filters like bloom and blur. ARB is generally the most popular, but allot of developers are starting to use GLSL (because it is much easier to use in general, the language takes less skill). ATI cards generally have very good support for ARB, but pretty shoddy support for GLSL. Nvidia has rather decent support for both types of shaders. With that knowledge, you should probably go with Nvidia. The card most recommended to me by fellow users is the Nvidia XFX GeForce 8600 GT Graphics card because of it's price and general support for all shader types. I would not recommend ATI because of their rather shoddy drivers (even though I have an ATI) lol I hope that helps your decision here. peace, -nick

i had a 8600 GT and its not very good. on 1680x1050 it had trouble with command and conquer at medium settings, and was laggy as hell with crysis on low.

RIGHT NOW, the best deal is the Asus 4870 at Newegg for $135 after rebates, it looks like a good card from reviews, comes with 2 games, and im getting one in the mail tomorrow :)
