Boring is a relative. what you find boring, others may find exciting. The same goes for looks. But, running like poo? Sure. FSX is the worst offender. You can try X-Plane 9 (version 10 is already out) and see if it's to your tastes. It runs much better than FSX.
If you do try X-Plane 9, the airports can be very underwhelming considering the size of install.
