Good Lord Help (CPU)

God in heaven help me. I just got a new CPU (OEM) and it wont run in my system.

I am trying to upgrade from a amd sempron (which I assume is 32 bit) to a 64 bit althalon both of which are socket 754. When I have the new chip in, as far as I can get is the windows loading screen, and about 3/4 of the way from being loaded Windows locks up.

I restarted and played around with some BIOS settings (I dont know crap about BIOS really, or how to update it which may or may not even be necessary) and am losing me lil mind over this. Possibly the CPU is fautly? If so why does it register in the computer at all?

Does BIOS need to be updated? Oh Wait if it needed to be updated, then would it not be able to detect the CPU AT ALL? I dont know!

ANY HELP at all is GREATLY appreciated.

I just have this funny feeling from the wording of your post. You did reinstall windows didn't you?juggernaut8419

This may be a late post from me, but no I didn't reinstall windows prior to installing the new processor.  I'm currently running my old processor still, but if I reinstall windows should that solve my problem? 

Can you give us your motherboard make and model?Red_Sniper
