Um I hope you know your going to need more then a motherboard and cpu to get a system going. Here is an idea http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106009&Tpk=fx%204170 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128504

"Future-proofing" or being able to run "future upgrades" all depend on how you define the future. There are current standards like DDR-3, SATA 6 and USB 3.0 that any motherboard that is current should have, but with PC hardware there is almost always something new or faster coming out, so you should just get the most that you can at the time of purchase. The main thing to go for is the best price/performance CPU you can get, and get a compatible motherboard that also has current specs. I'd recommend either ASUS or Gigabyte brands.

I would suggest that you look into the z77 boards rather than the z68 boards that some have suggested. I would also look into the mobo that I am currently rocking in my rig. The good things about this mobo are that it supports pcie 3.0, it supports the newest intel 3rd gen processors and their new 3d power technology thing (forget exactly what its called), and it also has native support for usb 3.0. They are also basically the same cost as the z68 boards. The good thing about my board in particular is that it has support for both Xfire and sli, if I choose to do so in the future. I was also looking at another model, a tad cheaper than the one I have now, but it only supported xfire, not sli. I think this is as good as you will get in terms of future proofing, especially considering the z77 boards were just released I think early April?

Anyways, hope this helps.

Dont buy a Z68 board. Z77 is the replacement chipset for Z68. I suggest this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293

Gigabyte 990xa-ud3. It's a AM3 board though, so if your looking to go with intel then its not the one for u There is a abundance of AMD CPUs available for this board and it's rather cheap($159).
