I am looking at the EVGA Nforce 680i for $160 but when I think about it, I am never going to use SLI. I feel that if you spend a lot of money on one video card, then it should run good enough. I am going to be getting an 8800gts btw. Basicly my question is.... since I don't need SLI and am using one PCI-E card, what is a good motherboard for a Core 2 duo 6600 or a AMD high end 64 X2 for games that don't have SLI? I want a good motherboard for games but don't want to pay extra for SLI since I will never use it. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Gigabyte M55SLi-S4 for AMD? Its around $110 Australian, so if you're in the US, it should be much cheaper.

For Intel, an Asus P5B motherboard would be good enough - it's 145 Australian dollars, so again, should be cheaper in the US.

These are just my personal picks - if you think you can choose better ones than what I've listed, then post it here.

there isnt a 680i single PCIe board that I am aware of.

Here is what I would get for a single PCIE setup.

Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3

I got this one from newegg.com for $65.  I got it because I don't have the money for a graphics card right now, and it has the new AMD chipset (690M, I thing).  It's only got two RAM lots though, so you might not like it if you need more than 4 gigs.  I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm sure it'll be just fine for my needs.

For Socket LGA775, I'd suggest a 650i Ultra, Gigabyte DS3, or the Asus P5B / P5B Plus.

For AM2, most of the good motherboards are SLi... Asus M2N-SLi Deluxe, M2N32-SLi Deluxe / Premium.
