Hey Guys,

So I have never been much of an RTS gamer, and I recently DLed the DoW2 demo and loved it so I bought it off steam for 25 bucks. I know its not generally considered much of an RTS but more like an RTS RPG hybrid, so I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of a recent RTS which is easy to get into. I played the WiC demo, which was really good but very frantic at the same time. My units kept getting blown to hell, and I kept reissuing new ones. This isnt a big deal, as I still beat the demo, but it was pretty crazy.

I know CoH is supposed to be great, I just dont think I can handle another WW2 based game. Any other reccomendations?

You can absolutely never go wrong with the Blizzard classics especially when we're talking about RTS games. Warcraft 3 is one of the funnest/easiest to play through games I have ever played as is Starcraft. I know they're not recent but with Starcraft 2 on the wings it couldn't hurt to get into the game now.

You really want to get Sega's Universe At War: Earth Assault which has a retro sci-fi feel about it. It supports cross-platform play so you can play XBox 360 players.

Sins seems like its more difficult than others tbh. What about Command and Conquers?

If you want a newbie rts get Command and Conquer: Generals, and its expansion Zero Hour. Very fun to play, easy to pick up and play tactics

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 and its expansion Yuris revenge is a great intro to the genre (was my first).

That would be nice if anyone played the game. On either platform. That and the Skirmish mode is just plain broken. That said, it has three of the best races I've ever played in an RTS, and overall is pretty fun. And is pretty easy to get into. Also, Command and Conquer 3 and Kane's Wrath are both fairly easy to get into, and are pretty great. Red Alert 3 is the newest CnC game. But it isn't very good, it relies way too heavily on spamming the same units over and over. Where as CnC3 (especially after the updates) relies on you getting a good mix of units, and micromanaging them. And if you buy either of them, DO NOT PATCH THEM. At least, not until you feel good enough to play online (CnC3's online is dead, Kane's Wraths is active) as patching the game makes parts of the campaigns impossible to finish.

If you don't mind older games, the original Command & Conquer and C&C: Red Alert are now freeware. They're still the only RTS games I could ever really get into and enjoy.

Age of Empires III, a fairly recent RTS game. Nice and easy to get into.

Rise of Nation as well. Not very recent, but one of the best RTS games I've played.

The classics are good as well, that were already mentioned, such as: Warcraft III, Starcraft, Red Alert, and Some of the Command and Conquer games.

I would prefer you start with warcraft 3 and Rise of Nation. Even though they are old, and have bad graphics comparing to new ones, they have exellent gameplay.

Btw, CNC3 Tiberium Wars is pretty good game, but if u are a starter at RTS games, and u want to complete the single player missions, I wouldn't recommend it. There are some damn hard missions. I'm currently playing it and I'm stuck . But, if u want good multiplayer, its really good.

And, CoH is a really good game, has nice campaing and good multiplayer. :)
