I would prefer the Fallout collection instead of the BG2 pack. I think Fallout 2 is one of the best RPGs ever - better than BG2 - but not everyone will enjoy it...
If you want BG2, there are far better 'packs' out there - like the Baldurs Gate collection (all BG games) or the Forgotten Realsm Deluxe pack (all BG, Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights 1 games).
I personally like BG2 + xp more, but Fallout is also excellent.
I'd recommend forgotten realms pack (BG1 and 2 + both XP, NWN and ID1 and 2. Lot of value in that pack =).
Seriously get both though, they are both cheap and well worth the money as long as you don't mind the graphics.

Planeforger
have to disagree - bg2 is the creme de la creme, the cream of the crop, the icing in the cake. there's no equal (except fallout). the soa+tob package is the best package. ice wind dale is bg2 lite and nwn is just not that good. and bg2 is a lot better than bg - it's like they took bg and improved it in every conceivable way. but i guess if the op wants more for the buck, then sure the other packages offer more, but soa+tob is the lean and mean package, the best pound for pound package. ok, enough cliche analogies...
If you're going to get Baldur's Gate 2, get the larger pack that contains the original and expansion, and then 2 and the expansion. I can't tell you how many times I've replayed those games.
Definitely get both, but if you can only get one, get Baldur's Gate.
I second that.[QUOTE="thusaha"][QUOTE="fireandcloud"]dude, this is a no-brainer - GET THEM BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! RK-Mara
Thirded.
But I prefer Fallout.
fourthed
but if not
im thinking BG cause fall out 3 is coming out(in a while) and shouldnt let down. and why not play the newest in the series. But they are both awesome games. either one isnt going to let you down(i hope)
but if you're really interested in a great RPG in that vein..Planescape:Torment trumps them both imo
wheezal
Well...yeah, I'd probably take Torment over both the Fallout series and the Baldurs Gate series, but that wasn't an option.
Still, if the TC can find it, he should buy it.
Man, those are all extremely classic and respected RPGs.
Fallout - the game that singlehandedly revived the RPG genre when it came out. It's a ****c in the best sense of the word. Great voice acting, and amazingly good storyline (unique!) and surprisingly deep despite its tongue in cheek ****
Planescape: Torment - some call it the best role playing game ever designed ... if you like the dungeons and dragons ****of RPG. It may be heavy on the text and light on the voice acting, but it is one of the deepest and even philosophical RPGs out there. I still play it when I'm in the mood for some deep thought. And the ending left me sitting in thought even while the credits rolled. The only game to date that did that to me.
Baldur's Gate: it's a romp. I don't think it's as deep as PS:T but it's definately a lot of fun. If you like spending hours and hours having tons of fun slaying monsters, getting awesome gear, and also getting some RPGing in there as well, this is the game for you!
Where are you getting the Fallout Collection Pack? I think I want to get it.visceron
you can find it on amazon via online sellers. just search for fallout. it should be $15 or so.
Im either getting the fallout collection pack (fallout 1,2 and tactics) OR the baldur's gate 2 collection pack (amn and bhaal). In your opinion, which package should y buy? Which one will last me longer and overall will be a better experience? Thanks in advance.greatmax1
Fallout is a cool series, but Fallout 2 is still one of the buggiest releases ever. Even after the devs stopped supporting it, even after users were releasing patches fixing hundreds of new bugs, it's still a buggy game.
I think Baldur's Gate is not only a more interesting series, it will be a better overall experience.

the only major bug that makes fallout 2 almost unplayable is the incredibly increasingly long load times as the game progresses, and there's a patch that fixes that. i think when you buy the game via the package mentioned the bugs aren't fixed, so the op would have to download the patch, but it's well worth it. but, again, get both bg2 and fallout 1 + 2 (+tactics)!

This is funny...It's like trying to decide which Victoria's Secret model to sleep with tonight!!!goblight
You have to treat this like a business project:
!. Know you're timeline.
2. Know your resources.
3. Use the resources effectively across the timeline.
greatmax1: If you can get your hand on both games and have about 80 hrs of gaming for the next 3 months, play Fallout for the first 6 weeks, then, BG for the remaining six weeks.
goblight: It seems that there are 44 victoria secret models. You also have 6 weeks to sleep with all until you need to double up on your list.
By the end of the 3 months, greatmax1, you should have played both games and goblight, you would have slept with each model twice.
You can't make a bad choice here.
I prefer BG2 to Fallout...but both were great game experience.
BG2 is AD&D rules, while Fallout has different rules, which I find less elaborate (yet awesome). You have lot of options in determining your character, but ultimately, a few cookie cutter choicesmostly.
Finally, if it was not for the theme, the genre, the world, I would put Fallout in the same category as BG2, as a subranch, and I would understand anyone that make 1 category and include both games.
What about compatibility? Is there any known issues when playing the BG games on XP, or on a dual core CPU?greatmax1
nope. runs perfectly.

Get Baldurs Gate 2 collection pack.
Quite frankly, BG2 is the best RPG ever made, and believe it or not combined with Throne of Bhaal it will last about as long as whole fallout experience and provide a slightly better gaming experience.
They are very different, it depends on the kind of game you go for.
Baldur's Gate 2 is a very traditional medieval fantasy RPG, where you'll find all the ingredients that 90% of RPGS are made of, except crafted to quasi-perfection. It has a good story, interesting side-quests, good dialogues and great character interaction - both with the player and with each other. It has party-based combat, which means that there is a lot of strategy involved; you might or mightn't like that. It has a significant amount of hack 'n' slash, more than I'd personally like. Throne of Bhaal in particular is very combat-intensive; I had to stop playing it after a few hours because I go bored to death slaughtering the same meaningless creatures over and over; the main quest was because of that moving at an intolerably slow pace and I didn't have the patience for it. It was a major disappointment for me, but I think many people like it. Still, BG2 is overall a great game.
With the same kind of gameplay, Planescape Torment is in my view much better; the story is the best I've ever come across, and it is the closest I've ever felt to a real, deep roleplaying experience in a computer game. And contrary to BG, every single fight felt like it had a purpose and a meaning. It's the kind of game which you will still be thinking about when you go to bed after playing it, turning all the turns and events in your head.
Fallout is more original than Baldur's Gate, and it doesn't use any predefined gameworld or rules, it has its own distinctive ones which I find much better (but again, I hate DnD with all my heart, so I'm a bit biased in that regard). Black humour is its main distinctive characteristic, and I loved the real turn-based combat system. The only problem I had with Fallout 2 was that it is almost too rich and complex; I found it hard to complete many quests without a walkthrough. The graphic sytle (it's not a typo, just a word you can't enter in this forum) is also a great success, with that mixture of traditional post-apocalyptic features and American 50s imagery. And don't wait for Fallout 3 because it's being made by Bethesda and I can pretty much guarantee it will be crap.
One other game which in my opinion competes with the three mentioned above, is the highly underrated Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. Best voice-acting and face expressions I've ever seen, rich dialogues, great plot. Because of some insignificant technical issues and a combat system which some people didn't like, it didn't get great marks in many reviews. I don't know if it qualifies as old, but it's certainly good.
Also, what kind of multiplayer does BG 1/2 offer? My friend has a terrible pc and cant player recent games, so i would like to play this cooperatively with him. Is it LAN only, or it can be over the internet?greatmax1
i'm pretty sure it's lan only. i hear that multiplayer is a lot of fun though. haven't tried it myself, but i know that you can create all 6 of your characters (6 being the max in a party), though doing so will prevent you from doing some of the quests.

Well you're wrong ;) I have played both Baldur's Gate games over the internet, you just need to specify the host IP. Some of the aspects of it aren't perfect though, i.e. the host player is the main character and any other players are really just sidekicks. Also, you'll be brought out of action whenever someone speaks to someone else, so it can get a little annoying sometimes.
