costs a little under 2000 included tax/s&h:

A Dell XPS with Intel Core 2, E6420 Duo Processor, 2x2.13ghz, 4MB L2 Cache, 1066 FSB

2 GB DDR2 @ 667 Mhz

750 SATA drive @ 7200 RPMs

768 Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX

comes with 19" flat screen monitor

The Geforce is the main reason its so expensive, $600 on Dell's custom build. Its such a good card though. Any suggestions? thoughts? I feel that Ibuypower is shady and Alienware is overpriced, undersupported crap. I dont really want to build a system myself again either lol

Stick with the standard 320GB hard drive, you can buy your own 500GB for like $110.

Aim for a bigger monitor, a 19" with an 8800GTX is a waste of money.

I don't really want to build my own again. :( I'm willing to pay extra to avoid the hassle and have the warrenty and support that comes from not doing it myself. I'm certainly capable, if a bit rusty. I've gotten 2 computers from Dell though and they have been wonderful (except I hate MacAfee with a passion). I may drop the huge HD to get a 22" monitor instead, that's a good idea.

time? hassle? no support? no warranty? many different manufacturers to call if a problem arises instead of one?

I put together a very similar system on Newegg and it costs just as much, so I don't really see the savings lol

case was 90 bucks, I picked something rather flashy and accessible from raidmax :p

Also upgraded the processor for 200 more and chose a much more expensive but higher rated motherboard, guess I got carried away. Anyways, you throw in case, keyboard, mouse, S&H and I'd save $200 honestly. I'm not really going to debate whether its cheaper to build my own, I know it is, but $200 is a pretty fair price to me to not go through the trouble! I've done it 3 times before, several years ago and although I always succeeded, it was very frustrating, always some little problem lol.

PacoTaco

that is why you need to use quality parts

anyway here's a list of parts

CPU: Intel Core 2 duo E6420
Case: Antec Nine Hundred with 3 120MM fans
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DSR (BTW, supports up to DDR21066 and penryn)
Power supply: 600WattOCZ StealthXStream
Memory: Geil 2GB DDR2800 with 4-4-4 timings
Hard drive: 750 GB SATA Hard drive
DVD drive: 20X DVD burner with dual layer writing
Video card:EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX
Operating system: windows vista Home premium
Sound card: sound blaster X-fi XtremeGamerFatal1ty
Monitor: 20 inch LCD monitor certified for windows vista and supports resolution up to 1650x1050

Grand total: 1975.04

Yes it is roughly the same price, but you get WAAAYYYYYYYYYYY better parts

If I was spending $2000 on a computer I would be expecting an Ultra (there over priced but, well ya if you got 2 Gs why not?) and a 22 inch monitor (you might be able to squeze in a 24 inch) and essentially the best money could buy. You could no problem get that if you built it your self for $2000 in stead of getting some really over priced thing off dell. EDIT: after writing this I felt that I might have exaggerated but after going to newegg and quickly looking I didn't.

why not? I've had good luck with Dell. Compaq drove me to build my own systems lol. Is it easier these days to build ? I might wait until the 23rd to get the parts if I do build it myself, b/c of the price drop.

Then you have obviously made up your mind and you don't need us telling you to build your own. Go buy your Dell.
