my question is do you like to play as the good side or the bad side.

for example in c&c: to play as NOD(evil) or GDI(good)

another example in overlord: helping or destroying..

well you get the point....

The idea of good and evil makes very little sense to me. I play the character, faction or group that I feel that I can relate the most to, or I simply play what I feel like.

Very, very little sense, but, since Evil sides tend to be a bunch of undergeared ret*rds that come in masses and have only 1 tactic that consists of running over the enemy with everything they got, luv them.

So it realy comes down to the game itself but, in the rule evil units are weaker, but come in masses. Win.

It depends on the game, really, or how I feel at the time.
Though in Command and Conquer, I'll take the Brotherhood of Nod.

But does Nod take itself as evil? GDI takes Nod as evil and Nod takes GDI as evil.

Well, in a lot of games where you have to choose good alignment or evil alignment the classes that fall under each aren't well balanced. So, I will go with whichever one has the better spells or attacks.

But, in most other cases I really don't care. I will just go with whatever.

In games like Baldur's Gate where being good or evil and making good or evil decisions affects the game considerably it depends on what mood I am in. Right now I am playing the game with a neutral good sorcerer but sometimes I'll roll an evil character.

a better example than C&C (although i love that series) are morality RPG's such as Fable, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and the strategy/sim Black & White.

In the RPGs listed above, playing Good is usually more challenging as in you have to do extra stuff or go the extra mile to please others to ultimately get what you need/want. While playing Evil you can just TAKE what you need/want by means of force.

Gosh, I was having this good vs. evil vs. agnostic debate over at another forum, and the people finally got so infuriating that I left. I usually like to play as good on games that allow choices. I will also play as evil if I feel the game is worth re-playing. What I hate is the agnostic side. That's what people seemed to think was the best. Using both good and evil just to fulfill your own ends. ...which honestly to me is being evil, and the least interesting kind of storyline. I guess I won't go into detail. I'm not sure I have much desire to start this debate again. Incidentally, the debate was about KOTOR2's story line and Kreia in particular. LOT of Kreia lovers and Carth haters over there. I'm the other way around. Commence flames in ....3 ....2 ....1 Mark

Who cares about being good or evil, as long as you get to beat up the other side? :)

The best game to really look at for good or evil would be Black& White 1 or 2 , if gives you complete control of wether you want to be good or bad. You can help your villagers, by giving them food, lumber homes, or you can throw your villagers light them on fire let them starve, drop a rock on them or there homes. As you change to either good or evil your buildings and your pet creature will also change to accomidate for it. I like the evil more options.

It's all about perspective. Having said that, I usually play through my games as the goody-two-shoes.

Whenever I can I tend to play neutral because this usually gives you the most advantages. I just do whatever benefits me the most. If I need to slay some innocent people to complete my mission, so be it. If I need to safe some innocent prisoners, that's fine with me. As long as I get paid or I get some other advantage. When you are neutral you get the advantages of being good and evil at the same time. But you do not get the weaknesses.

I hate games that only focus on the good and/or evil. Maybe I don't want to safe the world, but maybe I don't want to destroy it either. Ever thought about that, game developers? Well, usually I end up saving the world anyway because when it gets blown up or enslaved by evil forces, it doesn't benefit me very well. I also hate games that give the good and evil people huge bonusses, while leaving the neutral people very weak.

Evil, but with exceptions, like lawful sometimes, sometimes i just hate humans, or play as a kleptomania... The character lose all of his/her depth if you base your choices on extremes.. Like first play-through kotor 2 i was a lying rasist but with a good heart... He was somewhere in the grey area in the end.. Playing simply to max out the power of the char is boring too, then you are not gaming you are working.

The idea of good and evil makes very little sense to me. I play the character, faction or group that I feel that I can relate the most to, or I simply play what I feel like.

then the idea makes perfect sense. Maybe they dont need to be so clearly distinguished as good and evil, but if youre relating yourself to a certain faction, it helps if there are the "cool evil dudes that kill without remorse" or the "rightous goodguys disposing of the badguys".

I myself prefer evil. No matter how many times I go back to KOTOR 1 or 2, I always end up dark sided. Its just cool turning your companoions evil as well

I really like to play as the good guy that comes in and saves the day. In the case of C&C, I would always choose GDI...
