I don't know how to tell what power supply i have, but here is what i know
Dell Dimension E521
AMD athlon 64 X2 dual core +5200 2.6 ghz
2 gig of ram (adding 1 gig soon)
Nvidia geforce 7300 le
windows xp media center edition
anything else I don't know, oh yeah and under $200 bucks if i can
You can get the GTX295 which is the best.
But could you give us a specs as the previous user asked, and a budget :)

Waste of money that card will be like $200 or less when the GTX3XX series comes out.

The E512 has a 305 watt psu so you will want to get a graphics card around the likes of a 8600GT/HD4830.

You have a 305w PSU as nvidiagamer said. Googled just for double check.
The best gpu you can get without needing to change the psu its the HD4670 its not the best thing but will definetly be a huge jump compared to the 7300LE.

About the GT300 little is known, but that may be true because Nvidia likes to kill their dual GPU products in just a few months.[QUOTE="evilmudbug"]I don't know how to tell what power supply i have, but here is what i know Dell Dimension E521 AMD athlon 64 X2 +5200 2.6 ghz 2 gig of ram (adding 1 gig soon) Nvidia geforce 7300 le windows xp media center edition anything else I don't knowwklzip

Yeah the 4830 probably won't work since it needs to draw more power then the PCI Xpress slot supplies through the 6 pin connector.
how hard is it to replace a PSU? If i'm going to upgrade i'd like to get alot for the effort so if I have to do a psu change to get something better i might do that. What type of PCI slot do I have if anyone knows?evilmudbug
Its a X16 slot so you don't have to worry. Now then I know that DELL uses custom connectors with there power supplies so you will have to find a special one that will be compatible (PC Power and Cooling makes them) however they are expensive and not worth it in most cases. I just say keep you power supply and get a budget card that will still be 10 times better then that 7300le.

To install a graphic card is very simple, if you owned a Super NES or other catridge based console/handheld you will be fine, you just need to plug it in into the pci-e x16 slot. :P
edit2: Damn i almost forgot the next step.. The next step is uninstall the Nvidia drivers and install the latest ATI drivers and you'll be set for playing games
To change a PSU might be a bit trickier, but i recommend you just to change the graphic card on this round the HD4670 is not the best but its not a weak GPU it can run modern games maxed out (not all but many of them) so as long as you dont play at 1680x1050 or higher you should be fine.
Maybe you can start saving later for another Gaming PC because upgrading and getting a better PSU and gpu wouldnt be worth it because of the cpu. PC's need to be balanced :)
edit: And the HD4670 is twice as powerful than the 8600gt.
I'll just upgrade the gpu then hehe. I was going to get a new PC next year anway. ok so the HD4670 is what i'm looking at then. I found one and i'm going to post the link just to make sure i'm headed in the right direction.
edit: crap its not letting me post the right link but it is a sapphire radeon HD4670 1 GB DDR3 on amazon.com

Yes thats it! Good, remember baby steps that is how we learn in the PC hardware world. :P
Maybe you should order one from newegg because of the price difference. :)
And if you would like my recommendation this HIS model would be the wisest choice, very quiet, lower temps, overclocked and counting rebates cheaper! :D
edit: Here is the HD4670 from amazon, the link you gave me worked unless that isnt the model you were looking for? Dont worry about the 1gb of memory it gives it at slight edge on higher resolutions.
thanks that one looks great i love newegg. The only games i'm likely to play that are modern are UT3, dawn of war 2 and diablo 3 whever it comes out. evilmudbug
Excellent, its always good to be of assistance, and happy gaming! :)
Oh i almost forgot, when you plan to get the new rig feel free to come back to the PC hardware Discussion we will do the best to help you out! :D
