I'm building my own computer, and I was wondering what would be a good CPU? I mean one that is a good combination of speed and price. Either Intel or AMD would be fine.

Right now go with an Intel Core 2 Duo (or Quad) and get as high as you can afford.  The current Intel chipsets are faster and cheaper than AMD right now and you are finally seeing games that utilize the multi-cores.

BTW, this is coming from an owner of an AMD 64 x2 5000 :P  No problems with it, but keep hearing from people that the Core 2's are the way to go.

id advise going for quad core if possible. some games really love that extra umph (like supreme commander) and they will really come into their own as time goes by.  the extreme editions are really expensive but i think intel released a quad core chip thats more reasonably priced recently.

if ure not too pushed on quad core then a core 2 duo e6300 is a great chip if ure interested in overclocking. out of the box its solid but apparently it overclocks really really well.

as for amd chips, core 2s are cheaper and faster now. AMDs still offer great performance but, for the time being at least, core 2 duos and quadros are better processors.
