Save your money for a Core 2 Duo and if your mobo doesn't support it, a new mobo.

You can get both Pentium Dual Core models for under $100 each, and I hear they overclock very well.

Get a core 2 duo e4400 for the same price, much better. But you will most likely need a new mobo and with that, new ram.

IIRC the P4s used DDR2 for quite a while.

You will also need a better power suppy and a good video card if you want to play games.

So... this doesn't only happens to me I come looking for pointers on the right direction and turns out I need a new pc...

Well I have a job and i don't want to spend a lot of money on my computer. If i did want to make the jump to core 2 duo i would need a new mobo for sure? My computer is from 2006, an eMachines T3508 with a celeron D processor running at 3.3 ghz, 2 gig of ddr ram, and an XFX 8600 GT XXX. I believe the only weak point that is cheap enough to fix is the processor.

In your OP you said that you'd be upgrading from a Celeron D... now it's a Pentium D... I thought I should point out that there's a pretty MASSIVE difference between the two. Celerons are discusting.
