You can blame emachines for the worst LCD EVER. They don't have red (ok it happened once to a friend but still... )

Not really.

The only game which the 9800gtx beats the 4850 is crysis.

I would not say it's a good time to buy a 9800GTX, as we now have the sligthly faster HD4850 for about the same price.

And if the 9800GTX+ is a little faster then the 9800GTX it could be a draw in the performance vs price segment.

Sure the 9800GTX is a good card but the HD4850 is to.

It isn't worth the upgrade from an 8800 series card i think. My 8800 gts 320mb with Vista and 2gb of ram and Athlon X2 3800 can run Crysis on Very high settings at 1680x1050 with an average of 16 fps and i have seen benchmarks for that 9800GTX that are only a few FPS higher so i don't think its worth the nearly 200 that i would spend on it...though two of those cards in SLI i have heard are really good (nearly double one card).

I just ordered that eVGA 9800gtx KO (gtx+). I should get it in today :) For $209, its a VERY good card. Now for $350...i just don't want to spend that much on a card. This price drop makes it right.

Stock performence? Nope. BUT 9800GTX put out less heat, and can be overclocked more.

So if both of them were overclocked, id say a 9800GTX was better.

Go ATI.

HD4850

You will need to upgrade your entire system before you upgrade, FYI.

My PC is AGP anyway. Upgrading isn't possible.

Yes, that's what I meant. You need to rehaul your whole system to PCI-E. I knew you had AGP.

No

4850 is faster than an overclocked 9800GTX in 5 out of 6 games.

BUT 9800GTX put out less heat

Jamiemydearx3

Again no.

HD4850 consumes less energy at idle and at load than the 9800GTX. It runs hotter because of the crappy single slot cooling method and default fan speed.

Edit: And expect even less power consumption at idle when PowerPlay sets the core at 160 mhz (compared to 300 mhz for the 3870).

Eh, I'll still get the 9800 GTX regardless. I've got this strange trust towards NVidia more than ATI. It's weird... but yeah.

You should give ATI a chance, but still the 9800GTX is good enough.

Just like I've got this odd trust more with Sony (PS3) than Microsoft (Xbox 360), it's the same with NVidia and ATI.

...That, and also because I don't know much about ATI cards.

I understand.

You have gotten more attached to nVidia since you have sticked with them long enough to know they are a good company. :)

True, but that would be too broad, which will then lead to misconceptions about me.

I mean, I can accept that the 4850 is better than the 9800 GTX, but I would still stay with NVidia. Doesn't mean I hate ATI, nor would I try to be biased.

Same thing with a PS3 and Xbox 360. In discussions between a PS3 and an Xbox 360, I try not to be biased.

I consider myself a bit of a fanboy, but please, don't consider me as the stereotypical fanboy.

Sony uses nVidia, where Microsoft uses ATI. You're subconsciously avoiding ATI at every turn. Yes, you're a fanboy and you don't even know it.
