Hey,

I recently bought a new Pc running windows 8. I used to run XP. The games i love to play are Civ IV, TW Medieval II, Blitzkrieg. I'm looking to buy Civ V and TW Rome II.

But does Civ V run in Windows 8 ? I've read it may create problems.

Does a game exist to replace my Blitzkrieg ? I hate having to build in order to produce troops, etc.

Greetz,

Biko

Civ V should run fine on Windows 8 (also if you haven't got Gods and Kings + Brave New World DLC I suggest you do so, Gods and Kings makes the combat WAY better, 100% pick up that DLC and get Brave New World if you like the game). Might want to try getting it through Steam too as there are often frequent sales on games, I picked up Civ 5 plus Gods and Kings for £7.50 in the summer sale and didn't regret a bit of it. Games similar to Civ 5 would be Crusader Kings 2 (haven't played it myself but a friend of mine has over 500 hours on it and loves it) and Europa Universalis. I wouldn't pick up TW: Rome 2 as it's still got a ridiculous amount of bugs (mainly problems with the AI). It's playable but not worth it right now.

My all time favourite Strategy game would be Starcraft 2 (however it's very fast-paced and has a steep learning curve) and I don't think it's what you're looking for. You might want to try pick up Planetary Annihilation? I've been watching it for a while and I'm trying very hard to hold off as it's in Beta but it just looks amazing.

Also you could always try some other genres; I play a crap ton of games so let me know if you're interested in anything else (there are loads of cheap / free games out there that are awesome).

Company of Heroes to replace Blitz although the original Blitz is one of my favorites.

Civ 5 do run on W8, no problems what so ever.

This is more of a RTS, but I have always liked RUSE. It wasn't a very popular RTS, but I found it to be really cool. Also you cannot go wrong with Civ 5.

Just a heads up if you were interested in Europa Universalis 4. I just picked it up for a friend for £12 (usually £35 from Steam) from a link on reddit game deals, Funstock Digital. From looking at some of their previous deals it seems that they have been trying to start up for a few months in the UK so I'm all for supporting it.

Just keep playing the old games alongside the new ones. I have Blitzkrieg (the original 2-CD version) and Medieval 2: Total War. They work fine in Windows 8.

The original Blitzkrieg is 2D. So, it shouldn't have any problems with any of the later Windows. Red Alert 2 and Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far are the same way. Heck. Blitzkrieg even recognizes widescreen resolutions.

Blitzkrieg 2 may have problems since it's 3D, unlike the first. But, I don't have that one anymore.

Civilization V: Gods and Kings came free with my laptop which has 64-bit WIndows 8. No problems with running the game.

It depends on your hardware how well the games will run. Tell us your hardware

The Banner Saga just came out and man that looks pretty awesome. I am going to download The Banner Saga: Factions to try the gameplay out.

I don't think you will run into any issues running any games in windows 8.

If there were any problems with any games, it was probably the result of a bad driver that was fixed a year ago.

I have played quite a bit of civ 5 without any issue. It is a great game, better than civ 4 IMO.

(And also, update it to 8.1)

If you get Civ 5, get the brave new world expansion also, it makes the game much better. I wouldnt bother with Gods and Kings expansion unless you want some extra civilizations to have in the mix.
