as far as i know the HD DVD Drive will only work on the Xbox 360 itself
EDIT 1: yes i know that its USB but after remembering all the reviews on it they never tryied it on a PC so either you will hook it up to a USB 2.0 Port and it will be detected or you will hook it up and nuthing will happen. im betting on option 2 and in that case there is no way to get it to work. and then i would say sorry dude you just waisted $50 on something that is no longer supported.
Actually yes you can use them on the PC. Just plug it in, it will find the drivers automatically. Then it should show up as a drive and you can watch with any media player like a normal disk drive.seabiscuit8686Well, I at least found the UDF 2.5 blueprint needed so that XP can read the info the drive would gain from the HD-DVD discs.
For those interested, I'm watching King Kong (HD-DVD) right now through the 360 drive. Freakin' gorgeous! :Dcodezer0
Sweet, glad to hear that it's working. I'd get one, but they aren't making any more HD-DVDs, so I'd feel stupid about it. Theres also the fact that my monitor isn't HDCP-enabled.
EDIT: Heh, I suppose I own an Xbox 360 hooked up to a HDTV, anyways. Though, my first reason still stands.
Not without a small mod and a bit of custom driver(s), the HD-DVD 360 drive will work like any other ordinary HD-DVD optical drive for the PC.
Use PowerDVD 7 pro for the best HD-DVD playback.

Yes, Ben is correct
here is a guide you can use
EDIT: nvm I guess I should have read page 2 before posting.

there was an article about using the 360 HD-dvd drive with a PC when it first came out over a year ago.

There are still new HD-DVD releases being made. Beowulf is the most recent to come to HD-DVD (exclusive, too). And as far as I know, Warner and Universal are both onboard for supporting HD-DVD at least till May of this year with new titles. After that, though, we may start to only see them basically liquidate whatever stock they've available. But if anyone sees any links for getting HD-DVD's on the cheap, please don't hesitate to link-ify. I want to try and get myself 300 and Matrix trilogy on HD-DVD at the very least, if not a few more movies too. It's really sad to me that HD-DVD is being discontinued, because nearly all the movies I'd cared about seeing in High Def were on HD-DVD only, or the HD-DVD version was significantly superior to its BluRay release.Didn't you hear? HD-DVDs aren't going to be around much longer. Blue-ray completely owned them (and mircosoft because they had alot of money invested in the 360s HD-DVD).

ya everyone dumped hddvd, even their biggest supporter toshiba, had a statement and said that they dropped every single hddvd player off the market, paramount, and obviously sony pictures and almost every other film studio is on board with blu-ray just check this out, top of page i the charts, HD DVD IS DEAD!
