I recently bought Gothic 2 with the Night of the Raven xpac. I am waiting for it to come in the mail, but in the meantime I have a few questions.

Are there any problems that I will encounter because I am playing it on Vista? If so, can you please give the problem and the solution.

The next thing is with the xpac installed do I need to install any type of patches or will I be good?

Thanks for the advice!

I have it installed on 64 bit Vista and it runs fine. Then again, I bought it from GoG.com and they make sure all of their games are all Vista compatiable so I'm not sure if they did anything to Gothic 2 to make it run. I doubt that they did but I'm not certain.

I do not believe you will need to download any patches, but once the game is installed, check its version and then download the latest patch from GameSpot.

The only issue I recall having with Gothic 2 was that the cutscenes would not show, although the sound would work. This issue might not have Vista to blame, however, because it could have been my video card, an error on the disc or a problem with the installation.

From what I've heard the expansion pack makes the original game a lot harder, so it might be worth avoiding installing that until you master the basics.

You could just play the normal and move onto the expansion when you're ready. Shouldn't have to install it later.

I've played both the original, and then through again with the expansion pack. If I were the OP then I'd just install the expansion pack and play that (it only really opens a few new areas and leaves the rest of the story intact). When you first start out in this game expect a steep learning curve though. Overall I loved this game.
