It's not in the same league although it tries to be. Read the review for details.

I would recommend avoiding it myself in favor of better choices.

Its crappy, dont waste your life on it man )) Really. Gothic 2 is a much better if you wanna have a go. But the best option out of

all these games would be Morrowind. Or have a go at something like Vampire: Bloodlines (good, atmospheric game).

I found it to be a lot more fun than Oblivion. Don't ask me why, I can't explain. Maybe it has something to do with the world.

I agree. The Gothic series great and well worth playing. The combat is a bit of a pain to get used to but once you figure it out it's not that bad. If you decide to get this game make sure you patch it completely first. Unfortunately Jo Wood released this game too soon so the release version is buggy.

No surprises there then :( Them and CDV rank among my list of worst publishers :(

The funny thing is Jo Wood released the first two Gothic games and the Spellforce series relatively bug free. I can't speak for Spellforce 2 but the first game and the exansions for it worked fine. But of course when I got my copy of Spellforce platinum the CD key was missing part of it and I had to contact support for the rest of it.

To me it's better than oblivion but gothic 2 is much better. Like others said Gothic 3 is very buggy and you should download a patch.

A statement for clarification )): Gothic 3 isnt neccessarily a complete pile of junk..perhaps, if you download some pathes that fix the numerous bugs etc, you will receive a better gaming experience. However, there is no guarantee..it might as well just mess up your day and give you one big, loud headache )) Gothic 2 is more reccomended, if you want a good impression (i actually loved gothic 2 and hanged around it for quite a while..the atmosphere was awesome..but Morrowind is still the 'numero uno' )) If you find that you like Gothic 2, go for Gothic 3..but..'expect nothing' ))

I really enjoyed Gothic 3, much more so then Oblivion. No auto leveling and the world feels much more alive, and your actions seem to make a much bigger impact. While I agree Oblivion is way more polished, Gothic III just feels like it has more soul.

Gothic 3 is a piece of crap especially if you have an older single core CPU, im sure it runs great on dual core PC's but it didnt run very well at all on my PC.

I am sure any game is a "piece of crap" if it doesn't run properly. What are your specs btw?

Gothic 3 I found was better than Oblvion. But then again, Oblivion is all eye-candy. But it's a shame really that a game that has so much potential was shot down by major performance issues.

It looks like you either love Gothic 3 or hate it. I've been thinking of getting it. I really enjoy a good RPG and a whole world to explore. One reason I found Oblivion so much fun. NWN2 was fun, but the horrible ending destroyed any enjoyment of playing it again. I hope Gothic 3 has some fun in it.

I was quite dissapointed with Gothic 3 when it came out really, (maybe because I was really looking forward to it ) because it was really buggy and broken, but a lot of it has been fixed, so it's well worth taking a look now I'd say :)

In terms of gameplay, I think its better than Oblvion (from an RPG perspective).

In terms of polish, it doesnt come close to Oblivion.

Gothic 3 is extremely enjoyable, its just an acquired taste. Like foie gras, truffles, or caviar. But once you like it, youre hooked.

fri it took me eight tries and six installs over the span of a year to like the game.

Gothic 3 is a great RPG. The main story is mediocre, but the world is awesome to explore.

That is the joke of the month, all their games were buggy as hell. and the worst thing about their games is that they dont care about patches. they release 1 "patch" short after game release which is mostly a hotfix for some major problems and leave the real patching for the community.

They are about to release 1.6, which will include many of the community fixes as well as some more optimization in terms of memory allocation and the such. I dont disagree with you, their games are buggy, bu they are still worth it imo.

Gothic 3 was better than Oblivion overall IMHO. Gothic 3 had better gameplay and the world actually reacted to you unlike Oblivion. Oblivion was much more polished, no doubt, but overall lacked the feeling you were actually having an impact on the world.

lol.. I can't wait to get it installed. Can't decide between playing tonight, or waiting until tomorrow after my RAM is delivered.

Well, if you're gonna start with the first one, your comp should run it fine. I actually never played the first in the series, but I can safely say that Gothic 2 & 3 are both solid.

It is way harder than Oblivion. Heavier in story and I think the game world is better. But it is buggy as hell and combat can be very awkward.

I enjoyed Gothic 3. The game world is more vibrant and organic than Oblivion's. It has a bad rap due to the bug issues. Understandably so. Just make sure you save often, if you're playing it.
