Hi there, is this game similar to oblivion?

I found it to be a lot more fun than Oblivion. Don't ask me why, I can't explain. Maybe it has something to do with the world.Erlkoenig
I agree. The Gothic series great and well worth playing. The combat is a bit of a pain to get used to but once you figure it out it's not that bad. If you decide to get this game make sure you patch it completely first. Unfortunately Jo Wood released this game too soon so the release version is buggy.

No surprises there then :( Them and CDV rank among my list of worst publishers :(
Ade.
A statement for clarification )): Gothic 3 isnt neccessarily a complete pile of junk..perhaps, if you download some pathes that fix the numerous bugs etc, you will receive a better gaming experience. However, there is no guarantee..it might as well just mess up your day and give you one big, loud headache )) Gothic 2 is more reccomended, if you want a good impression (i actually loved gothic 2 and hanged around it for quite a while..the atmosphere was awesome..but Morrowind is still the 'numero uno' )) If you find that you like Gothic 2, go for Gothic 3..but..'expect nothing' ))

Gothic 3 is a piece of crap especially if you have an older single core CPU, im sure it runs great on dual core PC's but it didnt run very well at all on my PC.

lol
I am sure any game is a "piece of crap" if it doesn't run properly. What are your specs btw?
In terms of gameplay, I think its better than Oblvion (from an RPG perspective).
In terms of polish, it doesnt come close to Oblivion.
Gothic 3 is extremely enjoyable, its just an acquired taste. Like foie gras, truffles, or caviar. But once you like it, youre hooked.
fri it took me eight tries and six installs over the span of a year to like the game.
It...just ...keeps ...coming ...back!
Gothic 3 is a great RPG. The main story is mediocre, but the world is awesome to explore.
Jo Wood released the first two Gothic games and the Spellforce series relatively bug free. thanatose
That is the joke of the month, all their games were buggy as hell. and the worst thing about their games is that they dont care about patches. they release 1 "patch" short after game release which is mostly a hotfix for some major problems and leave the real patching for the community.

They are about to release 1.6, which will include many of the community fixes as well as some more optimization in terms of memory allocation and the such. I dont disagree with you, their games are buggy, bu they are still worth it imo.
I just picked up Gothic Universe for $30 at Best Buy. Heard mixed reviews, but I bought it anyway :)ArilehnNhelira
You just got a whole crapload of awesome RPG there for thirty bones.
Gothic 3 was better than Oblivion overall IMHO. Gothic 3 had better gameplay and the world actually reacted to you unlike Oblivion. Oblivion was much more polished, no doubt, but overall lacked the feeling you were actually having an impact on the world.lead_healer
Well put. Thats exactly my thoughts on it in comparison to Oblivion.
lol.. I can't wait to get it installed. Can't decide between playing tonight, or waiting until tomorrow after my RAM is delivered.

Well, if you're gonna start with the first one, your comp should run it fine. I actually never played the first in the series, but I can safely say that Gothic 2 & 3 are both solid.
