Just wondering, does Gothic 3 on Steam come with all patches, I've read that patched up it is a much better game than it first came out? Can you patch it from Steam if needed? I've played the demo before on my old dual core and it was kind of choppy, but now I have a much better six-core syster and a better GPU. Any recommendations? Thanks.

Yeah Steam automatically patches your games you've bought/registered with them. I heard gothic 3 was good after like a community patch that really did one hell of a makeover for the game.

And how was Gothic 3? Did you enjoy it, and did Steam patch it up with the community mods or anything?

Wow, the latest patch is over 900 MB! Sounds like they really worked hard on it.

It runs ALOT better since all the community patches.
Steam has a few of hte community patches, not sure if them all, but yeah the game is tons of fun now that its been patched up well. Was bad at launch, but now its a very fun game imo, very deep with tons to do.

Well you have a 50/50 chance. The Game runs good on some hardware and on others it will lag, no matter how much power your computer has.

So why is that? So it will run good on one good computer but bad on another equallly good computer? Hmmm...makes no sense to me. That kind of sucks.

It's basically Oblivion but with slightly worse combat. Still pretty fun.

Gothic 3 is the exact opposite of games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's a hard, challenging game that doesn't point you were to go, and doesn't hold your hand.

Has a more interesting vast world, full of varied landscapes, teeming with life... highly fantastic soundtrack that immerses you in that world(this game has won many awards in Germany for its stunning music), and by far more interesting quests in which you can easily sunk in over 100 hours.

The one and only reason why it got a score lower then a 9/10, is because of it's immense number of bugs and crashes, at the time. But with the community patches, that is all fixed, and lies ahead is a game far, far superiour to Oblivion & Morrowind combined.

Easily one of the greatest RPGs ever created upon this world.

this game is best played with the alternative balance of community patch.

I believe the steam version won't keep up with the newest community patches.

anyway, the game is great; to me it's the second best free-roaming RPG only to Fallout:NV. F:NV wins only because of the quality of quests and NPCs. Gothic 3 delivers a more complete free-roaming experience and a much more satisfying leveling system.

and, please don't compare Gothic 3 to Oblivion...it's borderline blasphemy...

You need a SSD even with the patch.

It was a mess before the community patches, and now it's a fantastic game - one of the best free-roaming RPGs out there. I'd say that it's definitely worth playing, although I'm pretty sure that I paid less than $15 total for my two copies of the game.

Get community patch 1.74 for Gothic 3

Great game. Gothic 2 is better - but Gothic 3 is very, very good, and they're both a LOT better than Dragon Age.

Really? Better than Dragon Age?

Considering the fact that most RPGs of the past 10 years are better than Dragon Age - yes - better than Dragon Age.

I think that may be largely your opinion from what I have read, many people seem to really enjoy Dragon Age. But I am not a harcore RPG player, so I probably dont judge near as harshly as most do. Alot of people thought Oblivion was great and alot didn't so I think it depends on the person.

I did not like this game. I was overwhelmed by the promise that I saw when I barely walked a little ways from the first town. Then the more I played I realized I could not play with the broken combat system. Hitting enemies was basically luck and I was running the second to last community patch.

A solid-state drive. Otherwise it stutters every few seconds since it's always grabbing data off your drive and this becomes a big bottleneck. YMMV.

$15 is quite expensive for Gothic 3. Retail stores have been selling it for $10 for years. And I'm not sure if the Steam version supports the unofficial community patch, which is a necessity.

The game is really good with the latest Community Patch. Not as good as Gothic or Gothic 2, but definitly better than most RPGs released nowadays.

Gothic 3 is excellent; the official patches (now, at least) have really fixed it up, but I still recommend the community patch, which is compatable with steam version. Iirc you do have to disable autopatching, though
