Just wondering; did they patch all the bugs? Oh, and did they ever fix the horrible weapon and armor clipping?

yes, you can mine ore. You need a pickaxe and training iirc. Simply walk up to a vein and do the activate action.

And yes, the game is patched and runs beautifully. One of the all-time favorites...there is so much to do in this game. Totally underrated and got the cold shoulder since it was so poor at release.

You don't need training, just a pickaxe. If you get trained in mining, you're able to get more ore out of a vein that without.

Gothic 3 still doesn't work flawlessly. After playing it for 50 hours, all the bugs drove me crazy and I uninstalled the game. Maybe I'll touch it again in couple years after I've stopped hating JoWood and Piranha. Otherwise it's a great game. The atmosphere is much better than in Oblivion. That already makes it a good sandbox RPG.

Oh yes, the combat is horrible. You have a higher chance of conquering a city alone than winning a pack of wolves. With better combat and more polishing = masterpiece.

Ya, that was my experience after my first five installations.

But, one day at college, when I didnt have internet and I didnt have my precious WoW, I decided to go for a sixth install. And I loved it! I guess I knew what to expect in terms of bugs, so I was able to enjoy it more. Combat is more fun than Oblivion's imo, but it is way way difficult at first.

So how does Gothic 3 compare to Gothic 2? I picked up Gothic 2 a couple of days ago and I feel sort of hung out in the breeze. They give you almost no information and I'm getting killed constantly.

Just go up to an ore vein of any type and press the "use" button. The pick counts as a two handed weapon, so if you use a shield, you'll have to re-equip it once your finished mining.

It could have been great, but sadly it's just a simplified version of Gothic 2 with fancy graphics :(. Gothic 2 is still the best imo. Well if you still have problems in G2 and if you didn't play much, one advice, when you reach the castle or city/village (the first castle/city/village), do not go too much in the forest on the left and if you go watch out ;) there are raptor like creatures, that will butcher you, when you see one, run towards the city guards. That's what makes G2 so awesome, the fact that you never know what might happen. It will get way better when you reach that first city/village:).
