NWN2 has some big issues too, newer patches make it better, and there is nothing that makes it unplayable (to me), i say get NWN2 (but i am a little bias, i loved NWN and i like DnD rules which are followed alright in many cases).

Gothic 3 is the better game. Think Oblivion, but more focused on exploration, more impact and consequence for your actions, better variety of areas and cultures. I personally havent experienced many bugs, and theres a new community patch that addresses a LOT of the quest bugs.

The only thing that Gothic 3 is pretty poor at is it's combat system. The way around this is to become either a mage or archer character. It's the melee combat thats very sketchy.

Of the two (and both are great games), in my opinion, Gothic 3 is the better game. Nevertheless, it's plagued by a number of bugs, and official patches are not likely to come out at all, due to the developer having a number of issues to settle with the publisher.

Nevertheless, there are community patches being released, and a whole lot of bugs have been squashed that way, but I can't bet my life that the game is now bug free. Anyway, if you buy Gothic 3, get the latest official (v1.12) patch and community (currently v1.4) patches. Gamespot unfortunately doesn't host these files, even though I've sent them mails with the links. You should also check these forums for any newer community patches.

On the other hand, Neverwinter Nights 2 is also a good game, and is worth the purchase without even taking into consideration that an expansion is right around the corner (meaning this fall), yet it doesn't top Gothic 3, as far as I'm concerned. You can read my thoughts on Neverwinter Nights 2 in this review.

due to bugs, I say NWN 2. Gothic 3 might be a good game, but I don't like playing unfinished products. Maybe after they patch it up good and well.

I'd say NWN2 but get it patched before you play, because without the patches it has some really nasty nasty bugs.

THe way I see it is like this:

Oblivion and Gothic 3 are both RPG-action hybrids set in a fantasy setting. Imo, Oblivion is a better game both in quality and gameplay. Gothic 3 might have better RPG components, but if the RPG components matter that much to you, then you should problably get a more traditional RPG such as NWN2.

So, if you want a more action-oriented RPG, go with Oblivion. If you want a more traditional RPG, go with NWN2. And avoid Gothic 3, its a very annoying game. The sheer amount of grunts your character makes every fight will drive you nuts!

Oh, in short, NWN2 is better.

I purchased Gothic 3 because of the action rpg elements. I didn't like Oblivion that much (used a friend's game to test) and I was never a fan of Nwn's DND rules so I took Gothic 3.

I played the original NWN and I wanted to ask, why does NWN 2 require so much power (like out of the processor and video card)? I mean, the original was a Pentium 3's paradise, but my 2.4 Ghz Pent 4 won't efficiently run NWN 2. There's something wrong with that. Not to mention, I looked at as many trailers as I could find for NWN 2, and the game looks good, but its not Oblivion. Anyone know why then its such a power hog?

Reason is bad optimization and blame it on devs' shoddy coding work.

Normally I would have trouble believing its a problem in the code, but you might be right considering Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2 are the children of Obsidian and Bioware, who are renown for making buggy games, such as the KotOR games. Don't get me wrong, the KotOR series are among my favorite games to date, but there is no denying they were glitchy throughout.

NWN2 isnt bugged, it is just horribly optimised. Just turn off water detail and set shadows to low and it will run just fine. Well, I guess thats actually a bug so nevermind.

i've played all nwn series..and and i must say that is not in my top 10 rpg.maybe because playing baldur's gate first, icewind dale 1,2,nwn didn't fit in the picture beeing "the next".the graphic ask sooooooo much.i couldn't run it to max,but how good can it look?i dont want super graphics..i want a good story and a good gameplay... bugs, well i had no pb. gothic 3,well i didn't play it,saw my boyfriend playing ita lot of time and all can i say:the world doesn't limits u like nwn,u can explore a lot, what u do affects the world, all the speach between your character and the NPCs is spoken, which is a really nice but if i'm start thinking of exploring ,races, cities, ruins..bla bla... i would recomend oblivion.all are good games,so if u prefer the d&d way try nwn,if not,try gothic
