depends on the game, games like GTA4, BFBC2, quads are mandatory with a 5770...Also your resolution plays a large part. What are your other specs, and do you have any specific games in mind? More and more games are using the extra cores, I just upgraded from an x2 550be @ 3.2ghz and xfx 9800gt, and I was able to play BFBC2 on low settings at 20-40 fps, at a 1440x900 res...Now I have an x4 965 and gigabyte 5830 and play BFBC2 at 1650x1080 at 50-90 fps.

I agree with most of what you said, except for a quad being "mandatory" for Bad Company 2. It ran beautifully on my E8400. That game doesn't need a quad. Sure, it runs a bit better on my Phenom II X4, but the E8400 ate it up too. And it's not just because I have a 5870. The effect of lacking CPU power is that of "the bottom falling out" of your performance, whereas having a GPU that's too weak makes games skip, stutter, and run in slow-motion. It's hard to describe the difference in words, but there is a distinctly different effect between a GPU and CPU bottleneck.

Any specific games you wanted to run though? your current rig should will hold you over with most games, (except games like GTA4 and BFBC2). I used to have the same processor and it worked pretty good. If you have the black edition, have you tried unlocking the 3rd and 4th cores?

that cpu will work great with all the games in "valve complete pack" source engine really only utilizes two cores anyways so that cpu will be fine. 5770 will be fine will all those games, I wouldn't recommend buying gta4 its horrible optimized, your better off with BFBC2.

Actually Valve Source Engine games were among the first to support quad-core CPUs. They almost all do. The issue isn't that they don't support multi-cores, it's just that they aren't demanding enough on the system for them to need anything more than a decent dual-core to run perfectly.

$127 USD, whats the exchange rate to USD american? It depends on what games you want to play, what settings..

Same amount of money spent on GPU always yields you more performance gain than money spent on CPU, as long as your CPU is acceptably decent(yours is). This applies even for CPU-intensive games such as GTA IV.

I got my AMD Phenom II X4 964 @ 3.4ghz for $195 USD w/tax..I believe your thinking of the 955, which should be about $20 cheaper so about $175-$180 sounds about right w/ tax of course..

not really..only reason I got a 965 instead of a 955 was because it was on sale..You can always overclock it, if you have a decent cpu cooler....

ok so, I now have the HD radeon 5770 and i have a dual core 3.2ghz cpu, but some people say i need a quad core to make the 5770 function properly, but yet i can run mass effect 2 at full graphics and the same with world of warcraft and alien swarm, should i still go for the quad?

Some people are delusional. No, you don't need a quad to "make a 5770 function properly." I'm sorry that someone told you that. The fact is that your CPU wouldn't bottleneck a 5870 in 95% of games, let alone a 5770. There are certain games (very few ATM) in which a dual-core CPU can't keep up the framerates that a good GPU would be capable of pushing out with a decent quad-core. However, as a rule.. CPU architecture and frequency (clock speed) are what determine if they are a bottleneck to a GPU.

So, in short.. your CPU would only be any kind of a bottleneck to your GPU in games that really utilize quad-core CPUs, and overstress dual-cores.

You will be fine, and you really can play more intensive games too. If your'e that worried, try to find a demo (there's a demo of crysis you could try) of a game you might want, and see how that runs.

Your computer can play anything at least decently. It will play 90% of games extremely well on highish settings.

Your dual core will run fine. You don't need a quad just yet.
