Is it ok to set your fan speed to 70%[used Fanspeed utility] for normal use? I did this because my gpu temp reading was around 48 degrees under normal load. When I'm gaming I set the fan to 100% to keep the temps around 80 degrees. I know this is a little warm but the 260gtx can sustain those temps. My main concern was having the fan speed set on 70% normal.

Could you please give me your thoughts on this issue?

-Thanks

I don't see a problem with doing that as long as you can tolerate the noise.

So, you don't think that running the fan at that speed constantly won't shorten the life span of the card?

dont know, it wont be slowing and speeding up near as much which will in turn help with the "life" of the product,, but also having it run non-stop at that speed surely isn't good for it... so i think its gonna be closer to a trade-off, than better/or worse.

On idle it runs at 52 degrees, which on Speedfan shows a little flame next to it. Anything below 50 is fine. So when I set the fan to auto it registers 52 and on manual at 70% it registers 47. I am wondering ,with only a 5 degree variance maybe I should just set the fan to auto, which is 20% fan speed.

52C at idle is low enough that you really shouldn't worry about it.

They are designed to run. I usually crank my to 100% when gaming. I'd rather replace a fan than a graphics card. I mean if my fan wears out then I'll purchase an aftermarket GPU cooler, or send it back for warranty (if it's still under warranty). I mean a 50-100 dollar GPU heatsink is less than the potentially 500 bucks you could spend on a GPU.
