With amd gpu price drop I've been considering going crossfire. I already own an msi 7870 and was thinking of grabbing another one, speciffically the msi hawk edition. My question being, would it be better to go crossfire or should I save up and get a 680 or 7970 instead.

You will mostly find crossfire opposition on this forum, do consider my input however. I have used this crossfire 6870 setup for about a year now and have been very pleased. No gamebreaking issues etc. I specifically have the HAWK edition GPUs myself. They run silent and perform very well without any further overclocking. Getting another card for crossfire would definitely give you a massive "bang for the buck" performance, so I'd say go for it.

I've got a corsair 600 watt builder Psh. Currently powering my rig with a i5 2500k at 4.2 ghz, corsair 100 push/pull, intel mobo, msi 7870 an a 200mm fan. Would it be able to handle another 7870? And what type of performance would I see? Compared to what latest card?

That PSU is cutting it quite tight to be honest but it should be okay. For benchmarks check here.

Personally, I prefer single card set ups. Others, however, seem to get good results with crossfire/sli so it might work for you as well. Given that you already have a motherboard that can support it, I would say getting another hd 7870 would be the most economical solution. I saw the HIS IceQ HD 7870 going for $219 the other day, which if still available would represent an incredible value.

I recommend getting another 7870 for Crossfire. 2 of those together will spank a 7970 and GTX 680 in many games.
