I need a video card that is able to connect to an HDTV and that will work with 300 watts. I'm not a hard core gamer, my most modern PC game is Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. However, I plan on purchasing Half-Life 2, Oblivion, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary very soon. I would like a video card that runs some of the more recent games at decent frame rates. I was thinking of a video card in the geforce 6 and 7 series. Here are my specs:

Pentium 4 3GHz, 1GB of Ram
PCI Express x16 Expansion slot (right now I use integrated graphics)
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, and 300-watt Power supply.

I don't remember the last system I had a 300w PS in man. You should be able to pull a 7900 off with it, if it is a GOOD power supply. Check out www.extreme.outervision.com/psuengine to calculate your power needs.

Would a 2600pro fry my machine. I only have 300 watts. I would change my power supply, but I dont know what size it is and I'd rather not go through the hassle of unscrewing/unplugging everything. 300-watts should be enough for the geforce 6 and 7 series, right?

erm all i can suggest is a 2400XT or a Geforce 8400.......Geforce 6-7 series cards will work but only low-end versions will (6600GT, 7600,etc.) An ATi X1300/X1600 would probably support 300W.

 You're kidding right? HD 2600Pro pwns 6600GT by a TITANIC margin (At least with newer drivers) and can hold its own against most if not all of the 6800's.

Get a new psu you don't want memory or hard drive errors if your psu rails are not stable with the new card.

As long as it has enough Amps on the 12V rail,of course it would.

All psu are not created equal just because it says 300 watts does not mean your getting 300 and that does not tell you how stable the voltage is across the rails either and at what temp. I swear by power and cooling they are the best I have ever used bar none if your going to be cheap then just get this !!

Your psu make everything work and it's vital to get a good one so why skimp on it and put your rig at risk ??

Also power and cooling psu's do power correction standard so you know your rig is getting clean stable power.
