Gonna go straight into explaining..

Last night when i was playing GMOD i got a graphical error (Warped 3d, changed colours you know all that and shortly afterwards screen blanked then it crashed) And ever since every game that uses dx9 or dx10 has crashed. I immediately thought it was a graphics card failure but i tried warcraft 3 (Directx 8.1) and it didn't crash. Could it be a software problem? Or is it more likely a hardware problem.

Using a Nvidia geforce 8800 gtx.

(On a side note, troubleshooting advised i update my bios but i don't actually know how to find out the make of my motherboard. Would be appreciated if somone could help)

Thanks to anyone who replies with a useful reply.

Definitely update directx, definitely update your graphics drivers. Those easily could be your problems. Otherwise, it could still be a hardware issue, considering you don't have the issue with older versions of directx (which use less of a card's features). Finding your motherboard version is easy with a program called CPU-Z. Google it and download it.
