I'm at a bit of a dillemma, I'm trying to decide between two graphics cards and i need some advice. I'm trying to decide which is worth more of my money, the 8800GT and maybe something else for my pc (like an aftermarket cpu cooler or a new case) or the 8800GTS 512 mb edition. I have enough money to get both, but I can't pick. What are the performance differences between the two?

the gts is 4-5 frames better..
heres the big difference though

the gts is moer quiet and runs cooler, so more headroom for overclocking i believe

8800GTS 512MB isn'tmuch betterthan 8800GT 512MMB,so make your choice on these two factors:

Price/performance: 8800GT 512MB + Other PC Stuff.

Performance: 8800GTS 512MB.

only 4-5 frames? wow. i guess i was a little taken by the design of the 8800GTS. It's one rather nasty looking card.

So, does anyone have reccomendations on what 8800GT i should get?

In addition, what would be a good component for my pc if i wanted to spend a little extra cash?

q6600

4 GB 667 mhz RAM

8800GT or GTS (soon)

I don't have an extra sound card yet, or a good cpu cooler.

i would just get the GT and go for an aftermarket cooler...seeing as the cooling and a very very slight performance gain are really the only differences between the two

Personally,i'd just get the cheapest one (As long as the brand wasn't bad though),though if you want the best brand,IMHO XFX is the way to go.

Get this eVGA one, cheapest one availible at the second of this post: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

I think the 8800GT is the better buy, if you can get if for $250 or less. Either card is enough for everything but Crysis, but neither is enough for Crysis, at least at the res I want to play. The 8800GTS does OC quite a bit more though, but still oc'ing the piss out of it was barely enough for Crysis at 1600x1200. You can get the GTS right now at newegg for $300 AR though, probably not much more than most GT's.

If you do decide to get the 8800GT, or GTS your going to need a monster psu. Something along the lines of an 800 watt sli enabled psu. Now I know there expensive, but I can find you an excellent deal on a quality brand.

Tuniq Tower is under $50 at newegg now, but make sure your case can fit it. Think the cheapest best one is still the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.

None, because you can get the GTS for $30 or less more, which would be worth it: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122045

Shop around, GT is only worth less than $250.

Have got all my rebates, yea it takes a while sometimes but you get them. He said he has the money for either so the extra $40-60 up front should be ok.

If you're gonna do that I would just get the GTS, runs much cooler. Mine is oc'd from 650/1944 to 802/2232, fan at 80% stays under 60C in Crysis, and my room is probably warmer than most ppls.

Galaxy is more a euro brand I think, the reviews on that page are mostly positive. I'm sure I can find an evga GT for around $240.

Yea I've seen that one, but out of stock, was there a couple days ago. Excellent deal if they come in soon.

This is one for XFX for $264 shipped, in stock: http://www.motherboardpro.com/XFX-GeForce-8800-GT-512MB-DDR3-PCI-E-2.0-Dual-DVI-HDTV-Out-p-489.html

TigerDirect also has an evga 8800GT for $260, and an evga 8800GTS 512 for $300 after MIR if you live in CA so you don't have to pay tax.
