I just got a new CPU and the graphics card in it is an ATI Radeon X1600.  I was just wondering how high that is on the totem poll of graphics cards.  And if there are any suggestions for graphics cards that are $499 or less.

$499? Thats it? Heh, you can get an 8800GTS for less than $400, and thats the second best card you can currently get. The X1600 isn't a great card, but you could do a lot worse.

Are laptops with PCI-Express slots upgradeable, or are the cards soldered in? Im sticking with my X1700 for a good while, but Im wondering for the future.

I believe some laptop graphics cards (the high-end ones) have the ability to be swapped out, but the majority of laptops have their graphics chips attached to the motherboard.

At least you got the XFX 8800GTS, XFX are probably the best ones to get. I'll be getting the 320mb XFX card in a few weeks :D, I can't wait. It sure beats my old GeForce 4 lol.

Yeah XFX is a bit more expensive than other manufacturers also.
