I'm currently building a PC for myself (a *modest* gaming rig) and I have every part down and priced except the Graphics card! I'm on a budget so nothing over $300 any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated!

What are the other components you plan on using?

Yes, but it's a bit unbalanced. Do you already have these parts, or have you not bought them, yet? Do you already have a case? What is your budget?

What resolution is your monitor?

Also, unless you're confident you're going to go SLI/Crossfire in the future, cut your PSU down to 500-600W and put the savings towards a Phenom II. That Athlon is going to be pretty underwhelming considering your budget.

indeed what case are you using? there are a few bits that are overexcessive and if you jsut want to trim the money for a case from the gpu thats fine to plenty of good sub 240 dollar gpu's

As others said, it's a bit unbalanced. You won't really need 8GB of ram with an Athlon, and own't need a power supply that big.

Oh okay thanks! I don't quite understand the un-balanced part (forgive me please!) but I can change my power supply I have NOT bought anything yet I wanted to run it by the good people here on the PC Hardware boards first, Do you have any suggestions for what to switch too, I think I can figure out the powersupply. I got the case for free at my local recycling depot but it is a mid-tower case, made for a dell computer. I plan to plug my rig into an HD TV but I'm not sure of the resolution,

@PBSnipes: forgive my ignorance but is the Phenom more powerful than the Athlon? I'd like my rig to be on the more powerful side so if I need to upgrade my processor I probably can.

I am buying all my parts locally at NCIX http://ncix.com/ and for my price wise $150 MAX per part but I've left room in my budget for more on the graphics card (MAX $250)

Thank you all for the input I've really learned a lot just by reading your comments!

Just found a powersupply on the NCIX website:

OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W ATX 20/24PIN SLI Ready Modular Cables 135mm Fan Active PFC Power Supply priced at $39.99

Link: http://ncix.com/products/index.php?minorcatid=1066

EDIT: After taking in your comments on the processor started to look at the AMD Phenom processors and got this link: http://source.ncix.com/lp4/AMD_PhenomX6/index.html I can spend a little bit more on the processor thanks to my Dad who wants to help me build, which one of the 4 seems best? MUST HAVE HDMI!! Thanks

Not really. My first gen phenom is weaker than that athlon 2 and I've almost used all of my ram doing some heavier tasks without be CPU bottlenecking me. Apps like photoshop are much more RAM dependent than CPU and could EASILY get by on an Athlon ll X4
