Half-Life Uplink was so freaking awesome when it came out, I've still got a demo disk from 1998 with it on it somewhere around here. I'll have to agree with that, but add Theif 1 also.

Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight

Trackmania Nations Forever, because it's more than a demo :P, but a demo demo, CoH OF.

UT2k4 and Halo. Free multiplayer ftw.

World In Conflict. Played it with 7 other friends online. By the time the game came out, we were bored :)

It was for the original Half-life, although Arkham Asylum, shockingly, has given it a run for its money.

I just remember that I had been hearing about Half-life, Half-life, Half-life, and that it was one of those games that I knew I probably should buy, but didn't realy want to. The first-person shooter was still a primitive thing back then. FPS games, for the most part, didn't have a story in them. But then I played that demo... again and again and again... it blew me away, and after that I badly wanted to buy the game.

System Shock 2.

mount and blade demo, played it nonstop for a couple months because i couldn't find a store that sold it. to be fair though, it was the actual game just with a level cap

Doom. Have to give mention to the Witcher demo which is more or less shareware.

Doom 3. The graphics were so crazy good at the time, and since I was getting less than 1 frame per second on my antique PC, I could enjoy every frame. Plus I was so frikking hyped to be playing a new Doom game after all that time... ahhhhh.

it was a chapter that was meant to be in the full game but Valve cut it out, theyt released it as a demo after the release of halflife, (the original Halflife demo was caled HL day one with roughly 1/5 of the full game)

Pretty sure I spent more time playing the Crysis demo than any other! Having the editor included only bolstered that as well.

Another vote for the Battlefield 2 demo. Sometimes, a single map is all you need in a multiplayer fps.

Carmageddon II. Hands Down. Only thing bad about it was the timer, but, that was easy enough to get around. The final game was **** but, that demo..man, so fun.
