Right. I love games heavy on combat and such, so.... what games do you think have the greatest combat system? I liked stuff like Batman: Arkham Asylum, and Assassin's Creed. And preferably on the PC. It doesn't have to be sword or melee combat. Stranglehold's combat was great, as was Gears of War's. Just any game with really goodcombat on the PC.

Killing Floor really makes you feel like a bad-ass when you're firing the AK-47 into a group of normal zombies head.

STALKER SoC and Clear Sky kind of leap to mind. Easily the most memorable gun battles I've played through.

Arma 2. In all other fps you end up unloading your weapons in enemis and they unload theirs at you with super accuracy and you slowly watch the health go down. But in arma 2 everything seems so real like you watch a freking war documentary, and not that cod "million enemies to kill" style.

Only with dante and his two pistols, the other guy with the hand slow me down alot due to using only one hand to fight.

If you liked Stranglehold then you should try Max Payne. Fear has some solid gunplay and various bells and whistles like decal effects and bullet holes etc. Shame about the rest of the game. I've always loved the feel of the weapons in both HL games as well as Left 4 Dead! That has some very furious gunplay.

Mirror's Edge was a thrill but not really much for the combat. Max Payne 1,2 and Stranglehold had a really fun combat and shooting mechanics. Bioshock and Fallout 3 have a lot of ducking then shooting then hiding again which is kind of fun tbh. Crysis really felt like CoD4, arcadish but they are fun in their own league I guess.

My overall favorite is probably Rune multiplayer. It feels really unbalanced at first, but if you master all of the weapons, you will find that combat is extremely satisfying. Plus, it's the only game I know of that lets you cut off somebody's arm and beat them to death with it. You can't argue with that. EDIT: It's too bad that most of the people who play/played the game did nothing but wh*re and spam the big weapons. Still, if you're a skilled player and know what you're doing, you can still mess up their day pretty bad. However, the best, in my opinion, is Half-Life Deathmatch. Not Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. Not Half-Life: Source Deathmatch. The original HLDM. Every weapon has a place and a purpose, and the combat really rewards your ability to plan and think moreso than your ability to aim or perfect a handful of tricks. But amazingly, good ol' run-and-gun works well enough too if you're good at it. If any game ever tops HLDM's combat, I'll marry it.

Sorry, but arma II is subpar. Red ORchestra's combat is SOOO much better. Not clunky, buggy, and glitchy like ARMA II

Sorry but i dont see any reason for my character to be super reallisticly innacurate and die with few shots while the is diffirent, in any case since it has to do with the combat system then its fallout 2.

Fallout 3's combat made me cry with sadness. "I just shot you in the &%*ing head, mother&%$er! 3 TIMES! IN SLOW MOTION! WHY ARE YOU STILL COMING AT ME WITH A CROWBAR>!?!?!?"

Mount & Blade actually has a pretty neat melee combat system. I always liked FEAR's gunplay. I think people react really well in that game when you put a bullet into their knee caps.

Prototype is worth mentioning, you can make giant spikes come out of the ground and overturn tanks, cut through scores of marines with arm blades, hijack helicopters with a giant whip etc.

The bestcombat in a game for me has to be Team Fortress 2. It has huge variety because every class is played in a different way. The combat is very satisfying in my opinion and never gets old.

I'd say that Silent Storm has the best combat system I've ever seen in any game.

The game itself is a bit of a buggy mess, but the combat and destruction physics were phenomenal.

ArmA 2 has probably the best combat system I've ever played, just for how well it immerses you and how realistic it is. Prototype had fun combat, and TF2 and Counter Strike are polished to a sheen.

Diablo 2 combat sucked...

Phew phew phew goes the fireball!
Now i gotta switch to something more close range!
*5 seconds later*
Gawd damnit im almost dead!

No way diablo combat was mouse button mashing then 5 second attack changes.

Fallout was nice, but i realy hated that all MGs had only 1 brutal kill =(
Its fun to cut a guy in half with a minigun. But after you see it 30 times over it gets old lol...

Actually it was pretty good, it wasnt an action rpg neither a click and attack, it required the player to be there andpay attention to it. Whats wrong no love for a NEW combat system?

Best combat system I would say would be HoMM 3/5 ---- Lots of different creatures and ability -- where you need use each creature wisely, lots of races where you need to know their strength and weakness, lots of spells and abilities that needed to be casted/used wisely, a pretty nicely thought out heroes skill tree, a simple but effective moral system and so on. Although I think this may not be the kind of game you are looking for

Not all best but I thought these games had interesting combat systems: KOTOR: I liked the pause - semi-turn based system in the game. Like a lot of people, I hated it at first, but grew to love it. Republic Commando: It's mostly a typical FPS when playing alone, but when playing in a squad, being able to command team mates, and heal was pretty neat. I can't fully remember if similar commands were available for Rainbow Six, but RC stands out more for me. Prince of Persia -Sands of Time: The core combat is hack-and-slash, but being able to manipulate time and finishing off the enemies with the dagger. Dawn of War II: Since I've been recently playing it, I thought I'd be worth the mention. The online is good, but I especially enjoy the SP. I know most don't like the tactical approach, but I do. Having to think how to push the front line tactically, and not just go in guns blazing makes the game challenging, but rewarding. It reminds me little bit of Commandos, but DoW is a lot less anal on how to approach situations.
