ok, so i have had my xbox for about a year and half i think.....

i have had it set up on my standard tv that entire time.

i recently bought a Samsung LN46A550 Hdtv 1080p

at first when i set up my xbox everything was fine. i used the cables it came with, not hdmi because i dont have the port on my 360 :( anyways i switch the little tab over for hd and it works fine. Then a couple days later i see my tv says im not using even like 720p and im like o wow! i can get better than this :)

so i go into my xbox dashboard and go to visual and set it to 1080p, start playing a game and the color goes out and my screen goes all green and pink(cant even see the game) so i go back and switch it to 1080i; thinking 1080p was to much for the cables....well 1080i does the same thing so does 720p.

this only happens on my tv while im using my xbox. everything else on my tv works great!

i called xbox and they were like "we dont know.. use a different tv" really? ok w/e so im thinking it has something to do with the cable maybe? any thing will help thx!!!

I think there may be some limitations with HD on the original xbox. I know it will display in HD, but most of the games arent made for it.

You will need to upgrade to HDMI if you want to use 1080p. Not all TVs will support 1080p through component because 1080p demands high signal bandwidth. Analogue component just doesn't cut it. If you can use HDMI, dont get anything expensive, go to monoprice.com so you can pick up a cable under $20.

i cant :( my xbox doesnt have an hdmi port.

im thinking of getting the arcade for the core system with the hdmi port.

but also i mean the cords should work with 720p and it goes all green and pink and stuff so i mean what is that about?

Yeah it should work at 720p with your component cables. Either your cable is messed up, your xbox is messed up, or your TV is messed up. Possibly on problem is your TV is not assembling the component signal correctly and the blue channel is being cut out some how. Thats the thing about component, it splits the RGB into three signals and if they dont all come together correctly your video would probalby look messed up. If you have another video source in the house that uses component, I would try that in the same video input you used for your xbox. If the problem goes away you can rule out the TV most likely.

i talked with somebody from xbox support and he said, he thinks its my motherboard...(i have put my xbox on other hdtvs and the same thing happens)...and says i prob need it to be sent in for repair which would be like 100 dollars.....so i figure sell this xbox...and buy the arcade for $199. and put my harddrive on it..plus i would get the hdmi port with the arcade.

just for to be clear....Is there any difference between the xbox premium and the arcade, except the harddrive obviously.

I had green colors before too, and you know all I had to do was force in the cables harder.

I dont understand why xbox is forcing your to pay for repairs. Just say it has 3 red lights and they replace it. AT least for me.
