Seriously, Risen (PC version) is an incredibly well done RPG and deserves no less than a 9.5! How can we trust Gamespot reviews if they would rate it only a 7.0?

I think Risen was scored well actually, we get far to many 9+ games these days and Risen certainly had its mediocre moments.
You really expect for GameSpot, let alone every other game reviewer entity out there, to rate the games -exactly- as you do?Seriously, Risen (PC version) is an incredibly well done RPG and deserves no less than a 9.5! How can we trust Gamespot reviews if they would rate it only a 7.0?

Of course. No one else can have their own opinion that differs from that of the great and almighty Baurus.
The average review score on this site is 6.8. Keep in mind that this average review score would be lower if GS reviewed more shovelware.
Either way, the game while good had a lot of flaws and as a result opinion is highly mixed on that game. Oh and keep in mind that the actual review>>>>review scores. In any case reviews are an opinion of a single reviewer.
I've stopped trusting Gamespots reviews a long time ago. If i see a game i like i will try it no matter what, unless of course the majority of people agree it's a terrible game.

Where the hell did you get a 9.5 for RISEN ????
Unless you have low standards of course....
UHHH, Risen is a mediocre rpg with a really interesting narrative. Its a 6 max. 7 is generous. The combat sucks, the customization sucks, the graphics are okay, and its glitchy. Sounds like a 9.5 to me.ShmiityI agree. Wouldn't give it more than a 7. And i mostly agree with GS reviews.
I can't comment on Risen, but Gamespot has some pretty suspect reviews lately. Some are downright ridiculous, especially when compared to other (more) trusted publications and websites.
Risen is one of those RPGs that has very high positive aspects to it, but it has big downfalls also. It's a mixed bag, 7.0 to 8.0 is about right.

Agreed. Risen feels like a 6.0-7.5 game to me.Risen is absolutely awesome and has much better quests than either DA or DA 2. Anyway, you shouldn't trust any reviews per se, the only reviews one should trust are those that don't give out scores. (Seriously, if reviews are just meant to be opinions why the **** are they handing out scores?)
It's all subjective. An opinion can't be wrong. Their opinion differs from yours. I though everyone knew this already.SF_KiLLaMaNMy take on this is that GS opinion regarding this is stupid and wrong. That's my opinion. I can't be wrong either, can I? So where do we go? I think its time that we take down "opinions" down the untouchable pedestal that a lot of people like to put it at. There is a thing as a false opinion, especially when it is based on misinterpreted/flawed, misconception, incorrect data, poor comparisons and whatever else. I'm speaking in general, not really in regards to Risen. I have not played that game. If an opinion is crap, then it should be called out as crap. Not as a flawless entity that it is now or a "Get Out Of Jail" card. Or else theres no point debating since everyone will be screaming "ITS MY OPINION AND I"M NEVER WRONG!". There is such a thing as a poorly written review. I thought everyone knew this already. Surely you've read a few bad ones before... IMHO reviews should discard numerical points totally. They take the whole attention away from the written review. But guess what, I'm going to play that card and say "Hey its just my opinion, I'm totally right and absolutely flawless so don't bother arguing with me.". :)
I always take reviews with a grain of salt. I find them interesting, but they aren't the final factor in me deciding to buy a game. Personally, I thought Risen was awesome. It looked great. I thought some of the dungeon levels were very fun (all the traps and puzzles). The spells were well done.
GS gave DA2 an 8.0...that should tell you right there that you should take GS reviews with a grain of salt.
I disagree, for me Risen has one of the best combat gameplay among all recent rpgs (with the exception of The Witcher)combat in DA2 is about twenty times better than Risen.

I don't think some of you get it. Risen is very highly regarded by many RPG fans. This is not some run-of-the-mill RPG. Risen is a classic! Many people are looking forward to the release of Risen 2 next year.
It is really sad that Gamespot would give a 7.0 score to Risen and then give a 9.5 score to Super Meat Crap. I really have no respect for Gamespot reviews anymore. IMO, Gamespot reviews have become absolutely worthless.
From now on, I will make my video game purchasing decisions based solely on screenshots, trailers, and/or gameplay videos I see online. I used to mostly ignore video game reviews anyways, but now I have decided to totally disregard them because video game reviews are totally subjective and of no value at all.

This.
For some the downfalls might outweigh the good parts. They were tolerable for me so I gave it a 8.0 but I feel 7.0 is a fair score as well.
Certainly not a 9.5 game though.
I haven't played Risen, so I can't comment. But reviewers also no only look at gameplay, but also technical professionalism (glitches, optimization, etc.) as well as accessibility. Review scores are supposed to be universal in a sense, they try and encompass every factor into a simple score, for better or worse. That's why they have text to explain their decisions.I don't think some of you get it. Risen is very highly regarded by many RPG fans. This is not some run-of-the-mill RPG. Risen is a classic! For example, I recently wrote a review for Blood Bowl. I absolutely loved the game, but I knew a ton of people would throw their monitors out the window in frustration over the game, so I gave it a low score despite my enjoyment of the game, but added into the text that Blood Bowl is an incredibly fun game if you like this, this, and this, so you should play it if you do like x, y, and z, but the average person would do well to stay away from it.
edit: Breaking down wall of text
I don't trust reviews out of sites anymore; many great titles didn't get a proper score because apparently game publishers/devs didn't pay that site to review a good score; lately happened to Dungeon Siege 3; Risen was the same - best Gothic style of a game (I know it's the same company)
Opinions on this?Baurus_1Risen's rating is fine. I'm more concerned about PC games that never get a review when other platforms have one.
